Just saw in the latest issue of Uncut (The Clash on the cover) that a new Morrissey album is due out early 2003 on Sanctuary. Well, that's it, pretty short and a little vague but nevertheless the Sanctuary-rumour refuses to die.

Reading this months copy of Uncut magazine (Clash cover), found the following tucked away on page 12 under the Music News & Rumour heading...

"Morrissey has a new LP, his first since 1997's disappointing Maladjusted, due in the early months of 2003 on Sanctuary."

Anyone heard tell of this?

Sandwich also mentions:

This month's Uncut gives a good (albeit small) review of Simon Goddard's new Smiths book, giving it 4 out of 5.

This month's Q contains an interview with Johnny Marr at the back. Asked what he misses most about working with Morrissey he replies "His great sense of humour", then goes on to explain this. There are also other small Smiths-related questions and answers.

Marr's album is also reviewed and is given a poor 2 stars out of 5.

An anonymous person writes:

Moz garnered a brief mention in VH1's "I Love the 80's". There was a brief flash of His Mozness during the intro to "I Love 1988" and VH1 inexplicably decided to shoehorn Morrissey, The Cure, Depeche Mode and Erasure into this episode. A five-second sample of "Suedehead" was played accompanied by one or two images of Moz. Then, unfortunately, it was time for the assembled peanut gallery of idiots and non-entities to comment. Some blond idiot (from musical shite group Berlin, I believe) said she found Morrissey to be "whiney". Sure, "Take My Breath Away" from the Top Gun soundtrack was pure musical excrement, but not "whiney". Enter various other commentators speculating baselessly on the source of Moz's presumed "depression". All in all, it was depressingly stupid. Oh, sorry, is that too whiney?

I was watching VH1 when the special," I love the 80s" came on. Morrissey and the Smiths were featured on the segment of 1988. Instead of praising Morrissey for providing the kids with an alternative to sappy 80s pop, the guest claimed that Morrissey was "too whiney." They said that Morrissey gets paid to sing about how much his life sucks. They also made fun of Robert Smith. One guy was like, "yeah I wear my hair over my eyes because the world is too painfull to look at." I was so disgusted and I am thinking of boycotting VH1. What tasteless uninformed bastards!

Any Manchester United supporters out there? I have received the new Roy Keane DVD as a xmas gift and to my pleasant surprise I found that the final backing track as the DVD comes to an end is 'Roy's Keen' from Maladjusted.

The DVD is highly enjoyable in any case, but to have a Moz track on it just makes it perfect.

A great tribute to Roy Keane and Morrissey at the same time.

Happy 2003!!

The Smiths have been voted into 22nd place in a new poll by Virgin Radio listeners entitled The Top 100 Great British Artists. Surprisingly, Queen headed the list followed by The Beatles and Oasis. Perhaps even more shocking was Spandau Ballet making the list at #88. A complete list of results can be seen here: Virgin Radio Top 100 British Artists.

Johan de Witt also writes:

On New Year's Eve Virgin radio counted down the top 100 best British artists ever, as voted bij its listeners. The Smiths only became 22nd. Before other 80s acts such as The Cure, Depeche Mode or Joy Division, but behind New Order, The Stranglers and even Paul Weller.
