Fax to Janice Long BBC Radio2 from Morrissey: he's signed!

Janice Long on BBC Radio 2 has just read out a fax from Morrissey (signed by him) to say words to the following effect (not precise transcription).

'To all 12 people in the UK who are interested, I would like to let you know that I have signed to Attack on the Sanctuary label. Have begun recording my first album in 40 years. Please dedicate (something) to my nephews Sam and Johnny and say hi to everyone that knows me.'

Janice Long then played 'The world is full...' from last year's Radio 2 session.

As I said, not 100% accurate transcription but I think most of the details are there. Pretty funny stuff served with a nice dollop of trademark self-deprecation.

  • In the words of the Monkees who I know Moz is a huge fan of (tee-hee...) "I'm A Believer!!!" And while I doubt they actually wrote that themselves congrats to our old boy. Let's put the backbiting behind us and hope for the best. Regardless of David T's best efforts this site has become a bit of a slum as of late and hopefully we can all smarten up at this fine news. My only question is with Moz being on Attack, does that mean he'll be working with Lee "Scratch" Perry on his new record (Ho Ho I couldn't resist...) Seriously though congrats to Moz and the lads, this is great news!!!

  • Congrats to the man as well as the folks at Sanctuary. This is fantastic news. Although I was truly hoping he would sign to Metropolis Records and be a label mate with Peter Murphy, Sanctuary surely has a strong roster of it's own. They better invest heavily in promoting him. Morrissey will deliver the goods.

    Hello...Janice Long here...A fax was sent to me on 25 May...however did not get it til today because of the Bank Holiday....Morrissey has signed to Attack, part of Sanctuary ..and is starting work as we speak. He asked me to play Ludus "Breaking the Rules" for nephews Sam and Johnny but ...guess what? ...it was not in the R2 computer bank. In celebration I am now having a bottle of wine....and waiting for the album...love to you all.....Janice

  • Upon first read, I'm very skeptical. Second read, I'm overjoyed. Upon third read, skeptical again. There's been too may false rumors of signing and I'm not going to jump up and down and spread the news to all my friends without a computer, before I actually see something on the Sanctuary website. I'm hoping this is true at last. No more rumors please. Also, has anyone else been able to access the Janice Long link that was posted earlier? I'd like to hear it myself. I'm also wondering if it's someone sending Janice a cruel fax to fuck with us all again.

  • good news ONLY if first of the gang to die is on there, the other songs that were played on the tour need to be b sides. Irish blood will obviously be on there as that's the title of the album. I like you and mexico are frankly awful though, sorry moz. The world is full.... is not bad but for the album to sell bucketloads it needs to be another vauxhall and not kill uncle.

    ... hmmm. So did Moz finally concede to a lower fee? There's been a real game of cat and mouse here with rumour denying for the last 9 months or so. He even told Janice Long in Sept that he wasn't signing to Sanctuary. Why all that crap for the last year? Why get us fans all worked up? Morrissey has not been totally honest on this subject over the past year and could have made it clearer so many times in past rather than pretend nobody wanted to sign him.

    Glad as I am the deal is done, the past few months of rumour and denial have been farcical and very badly handled.
