Re: More live gigs? a friend of a friend in the states talked to someone doing merch for a biggish band. which band it was escapes me at the moment, but the same guy apparently does merch for moz as well. he claimed he had already been hired for a US tour early next year. pretty vague, i know, but hey... --- Also, the official site has "Forthcoming Dates / Live dates to be announced soon!" in the tour section.

We intuitively un-invested in Indio before he did, instead traveled to vegas (saw the cranberries too).
Vegas was fine for us, we felt the thinner setlist, but thought he was great. Left us wanting more.. First show since the LA palladium
run. Came home happy to travel to San Diego, for front row center, but behind the pit that had what looked like only 25 people in it, every one of which got much luv from the man. My wife and I had direct eye contact with him all night.
I was wearing a vintage tee from 1991 "the motor cycle au pair boy" tour. He Noticed it for sure. It was us, a rail, a 5 foot gap to the 2 rows of heads, another rail and him.. He threw his shirt right at me but it opened like a parachute before it ever reached me, arghhh!! Still, A perfect night, all you could hope for. So, then SAW him obviously distressed about not being able to hear himself at gibson and wifie and i got in for $60 ea after HSIN began outside Ventura because it sold out..

In the past, Morrissey was about quality over quantity, which is an absolutely dead and buried art form. Now, Morrissey is out and about, but with the attitude of a government worker. All of this comes across as career desperation, and it's not endearing. He's been seen enough.
It's just one big money grab before Moz heads for the old folks home. If he's having this much trouble at 50, who knows what condition he will be in, in five to ten years?

Who would ever believe this is a Morrissey fan site by the reactions to a possible 2010 tour.
Yes it is understandable that some may worry of his health and think he needs a break. The sad thing is that should be the rule not the exception.
But those who even at a mere rumor immediately begin their incessant bitching at his band and his future set list and all his most recent work, branding them as awful and terrible, etc. is downright scary. Not to mention those calling for his retirement. And this is on his alleged “fan” site so to speak.
Yes perhaps he does need a much deserved break as everyone knows including himself, though it seems pretty clear that his heath is not the best even during his down times, one example being he had to delay his 2009 US tour’s start do to sickness and he hadn’t played in months, so not sure touring is the cause of his recent ills. Really what he needs to do is space out his tour better, stop with the back to back shows and try to schedule a further extra day off whenever possible, maybe when he’s traveling a great distance. Though this will mean less shows in the same period of time and less in the same general area, this should help him keep his health up as much as anything. Along with the added benefit of maybe cutting down on some of you cretins crawling into multiple shows only to complain about similar set lists.
As for the relentless droning of “he’s terrible these days”, “he writes crap songs lately”, “his performances’ suck”, “the band should be sacked“, “the obsessive anti-Jesse rampage” all because of their jealousy, “he should just retire”, I have a suggestion for you all. Since clearly all of you who live on here whining and bitching about this non stop, complaining endlessly about someone you clearly do not like anymore (if you ever even did or if any record company or journalist ever visited this site they would think it‘s a Morrissey war zone as opposed to his exclusive web site designed for his true fans and followers) on his damn fan site, which if it’s not a sign of being mentally unbalanced, then I’m not sure what is - so why not use that mental demented state you’re in to your advantage and pretend he is retired as most of you suffer from hallucinations and delusions as indicated by your lack of support, inane drum rolls of Morrissey bashing and the overall gloom and despair looks on the face of those who attend the gigs of their hero. Convince yourself of that reality - much as you convince yourself that your future won’t consist of a halfway house and jail and an early grave - and come to believe he is retired as you so think he should be. Then like magic, you won’t need to visit or write on here anymore about someone who’s left the stage and no new records to bash as they won’t exist to you and no “awful, pathetic, redundant” concerts to attend as well retired singers don’t perform anymore.
Then all will be fine. You don’t have to get so so worked up over how Morrissey has changed as he’s done. Morrissey won’t have to look out into the crowd and see your lifeless mummified bodies standing there taking pictures of each other in the crowd while he performs and we, the few who remain will not have to read your endless non stop inane drivel on here over and over again.
So you win, we win and Morrissey wins. Everyone wins.
Well everyone except those unfortunate unlucky ones who must encounter your sad useless pathetic talent less tasteless selves in the real world on a regular basis and have to put up with you all unavoidably. Though even they may pray to Santa for, and take comfort in, the thought that you all are one drunken misstep in front of a speeding double decker bus away from solving that as well.

Statement from Morrissey to True-to-you
On these last days of the old year, I thank everyone who attended the 2009 concerts.
My personal favorites were:
1 Dublin
2 Dusseldorf
3 Munich
4 Pomona
5 Warsaw
The three Brixton concerts were dramatic and perfect for me, and there was a great air of adventure in both Estonia and Latvia. The Russian concerts were a big thrill, but in the absence of even a speckle of publicity
Hope denied in Liverpool, and the physical limits were tipped in Swindon – these were life's unfortunate lows.
I spent the night at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon where the staff restored my faith in humanity. I had no idea such kindness existed.
There were more stop-start-trap-doors and cancellations this year than ever before, and it's difficult to keep your mental balance and to remain unclouded at such times. Since every living person appeared to have some strain of flu, there seemed no reason why I should escape it, and I could not listen to medical advice that cautioned me to stand back from the audience and not to shake anyone's hand. Life has come to this? By tours' end I had no face worth rearranging.
The landscape of familiar faces who have replaced the Irregular Regulars, and who attend as many of the concerts as possible, continue to astound me. I don't know how – or even why – they attend so many. It is remarkable, and the financial costs must wipe them out for good. I am repeatedly honored and speechless by their dedication.
There are no 2010 plans to fire me out of a cannon. Hopes of concerts in New Zealand and Australia collapsed under a mound of doubts. That's life.
Even though you see the death of culture all around you, you also want to raise whatever it is you do to a higher plane, yet there is no one, it seems, who can inch the Morrissey thing forwards. As we all now know, the world of music is purely market-driven – not even youth-driven anymore. Talent or merit or songs do not enter the equation for a split second; the campaign is the thing, the campaign is what is discussed amongst the public, the campaign is what impresses the press, and the songs are never a factor. The labels will only push the "artists" that they themselves have discovered, and have no interest in the self-made, blah, blah. But my parting with Universal is not a negative. I am sorry that "Swords" was such a meek disaster. It was proposed and accepted as a budget-priced CD, yet emerged everywhere as the most expensive CD in the racks. It was poorly distributed and didn't stand a chance, and ranks as the lowest chart position I've ever encountered. I remain steadfastly proud of "Years of refusal", which along with "You are the quarry" and "Ringleader of the tormentors" are my life's peaks. These three will allow me to die in peace. I am no longer in the thrall of anything that preceded them; the past is not me.
I was delighted at the radio airplay in England for "I'm throwing my arms around Paris", which seemed to match both "Suedehead" and "That's how people grow up" singles for rotation.
However, "I'm throwing my arms around Paris" did not chart in France!
What does the future hold? What does the next minute hold? It all rests as ever on determination – that which springs from somewhere deeper than the body. Record label interest is zero, but the sun will creep back into the room one way or another. It always does.
Small and bowed, I offer you my eternal thanks, and my hopes for a steady 2010, full of good grace and no darkness.

Regarding your point, you're wrong. The reason Morrissey gigs were once 'an event' is because he sang them like they were a rare thing. He made them an event through his understanding of the drama of pop. However, I must admit they've become a little 'de rigeur' in recent years.
The reasons why?
Poor set-lists. Undignified stripping on stage in his 50s. Poor playing live, never more evident than on 'This Charming Man.'
The situation is not irretrievable. He just needs to have a break, devise a good set-list and hire Bernard Butler.
