Why Morrissey was right to walk off after being hit by a bottle at the Echo Arena – and what it says about Liverpool by Lee Barker - Liverpool Echo, originally posted by CharlieFairhead in the forums (original post).

NME calls Morrissey "...a petulant little child..." - original post by Uncleskinny:

In response to a letter about the Liverpool Echo debacle, this is what the letters editor, Rebecca Robinson, had to say, in superb reportage-style weasel words...

"While not insisting that our pop stars should have to put up with taking a bottle full on the bonce there are some who have questioned whether Moz is a petulant little child in this instance. Fans have paid silly money to see their idol, who then walks off taking the moral high ground with him along with the sympathy of the fans. So who's been most hurt here? - RR"

  • while I am disappointed that it was ruined...you're right! we're getting our money back and aren't losing anything material. Can't these people find something else to piss and moan about?? I've said it before and I'll say it again...I totally agree with Moz...I'd have walked too

  • What do you expect from the NME.It's a nasty music paper. They are so so jealous of Morrissey. That's why they wrote that piece on the Liverpool Concert.I will personally never by a copy again. What with this and accusing him of being a racist back in 2008 ,which we all no he is not.
They put people down and try to destroy careers just so they can sell magazines.

  • NME has lost all it's credibility years ago. It really is a very sad paper, not worth the paper it's printed on. NME does more harm than good to the UK music industry. Their sales are very low these days so it wouldn't surprise me if they put the X-factor winner on the cover in the near future. Just ignore the shit rag. I tend to secretly damage & rip the copies in my local supermarket so noboby will buy them. I encourage you to do the same!

  • But the press can't seem to let the issue go either.

"silly money" to see Morrissey is a fan's personal choice. Otherwise it's £35 - £40 for a ticket to a Morrissey gig. Dead reasonable when you consider that he has to pay a promoter, a band, a crew and a venue out of the takings.

Contrast that with Bon Jovi and Madonna who charge £150 upwards for tickets these days. That's silly money and when you consider you're getting the same song 20 times with Bon Jovi and a middle aged woman exposing her lady garden with Madonna, I think that's far too much money.

Btw, what's the NME cost these days? Considering the majority of the bands featured in there are only around for 2 minutes and most scandal rags go for less than a quid these days, I think anything more than £1.50 for a weekly music rag is "silly money".

  • Little children, eh NME? Well, maybe you'd like to sniff a little closer to your artists because the mess you write about and the mess you create when you write just reeks of little children. Bye bye.

  • n.m.e. is that still going?
still churning out nonsensical drivel disguised as relevant comment?
still over charging for its incompetent schoolboy rants?
still pretending to have its finger on the pulse, when the corpse has been buried dug up and buried again decades ago?
surely not. who's being ripped off here?

I would have walked off too. Perhaps some artists would stay on stage after getting hit with a bottle, but because Moz didn't doesn't make him a child. It makes him a singer reminding everyone that you can't just throw things at people (flowers excluded) and expect there to be no consequences. Why set a precedent that it's okay to throw a bottle at the person on stage? And don't you think getting hit in the head with a bottle kind of ruins the mood? Would you want to keep singing?

Go Moz. Sometimes one fan ruins it for everyone and serves as a lesson to everyone else. Act like a child, get treated like one. In other words, let's not confuse Moz with the actual petulant little child in this story.

  • Yes poverty is the destruction of poor people but why compare the two..A smack on the head,or the money people spent( i can speak from my pocket). How hard did it hit him?maybe he felt bad..So next time your at work think nothing of a smack round the head..Still like his resolve to keep his own mind ,while thousands, thought to change it..As for NME sure its worried and insecure bieng the abandoned inner child..
