The Rumored And The Confirmed For Coachella 2009 - The Tripwire

Excerpt:

We’re not really sure why rumor news is exciting to people since it’s totally unsubstantiated, but we’re not one to pass up on the opportunity to report on things that might happen. So forget rumors, we will be the first to confirm that Blur, Faith No More (reunited) and Morrissey are playing the 2009 installment of Southern California’s biggest music festival. Just don’t credit us, credit Consequence Of Sound.

  • He may be playing Coachella, but definitely not headlining. The bands that headline Coachella have infinitely more of a following than Morrissey.

Most interesting to me...Faith No More is back? For real? I'll believe it when I see it. Mike Patton has always seemed pretty reluctant to revisit the past...

I absolutely hate the thought of Moz playing there again. I don't mind the festivals so much but Coachella is such a shit place to play. Hey, why not load up and put on a big fest in the middle of the Sahara, to?!?! Please Moz, don't do it. It'd be cool if he organized something on his own in L.A. Kind of like the Meltdown thing he got to be involved in a few years back.

Hold court at some theater in L.A. for a few nights with bands that he chooses. Now that'd be cool!

  • MOZ did not headline in 1999 at Coachella. He came on after Perry Ferrell and gave us about 9 songs. I believe the Chemical Brothers unfortunately headlined on MOZ's night. I don't remember the latter part of the night because I left right after MOZ finished his set. Brilliant night of MOZ.... the anticipation of whether he would show or not after he had just a couple of nights before canceled the Vegas gig. The rumor that Marr would appear simultaneously. Then in true MOZZY solo form (after a lengthy wait mind you) comes literally sliding on feet, arms stretched out, body language screaming "here I am" as the drum solo from the Operation transitioned into Your Gonna Need Someone On Your Side".... but now its close to 10 years on, and it seemed like just yesterday.

  • this is not new news, with the lack of california dates on his tour and the gap before he heads to europe....this was pretty obvious.

  • The only important piece of info that I took from that link was the comment that the Talking Heads are being considered as one of the surprise reunions. As much as I love Moz, I'd rather see Talking Heads back together.

  • I can't wait for the announcement of the lineup! Obviously it would be great if Morrissey is one of the headliners. I additionally would love to see David Bowie, The Cure or Radiohead added to what would then be a dream line-up. Daft-Punk, Yeah Yeah yEAHS, Digitalism, MGMT, Cocteau Twins, MSTRKRFT, Of Montreal, Jacques LuCont, and Deerhunter are some of the others I'd love to see. I've seen Franz Ferdinand, TV On The Radio, Blonde Redhead, Muse and Interpol before and would love to see them again. I've never been to Coachella but am planning on going this year for sure!

  • Do you live in the back of the woods? have no access to media, such as radio & magazines? I think the washed-up comedy act will be the re-united Blur! And they are re-united for $$$$ only.

  • Morrissey is a pretty big draw here in southern CA. I think he'd be a fantastic addition to the Coachella lineup. While I don't think he'd necessarially get a headlining spot, I don't know that Blur will be that big of a draw either. Don't get me wrong, I hope they're both on the bill.

  • I personally believe the headliner is the act with the largest billing. They play the main stage last, and usually draw the largest audience. I just don't believe Morrissey will be a headlining act. I have no doubt he'll perform late in the evening prior to one of the headliners, but I don't believe he'll get top billing. I wasn't at Coachella in '99, but if the posters I have seen are correct, he didn't "headline" then either. I love Morrissey with all my heart, so please don't misconstrue my words.

  • How did my comment get marked down to troll when all I was stating was the obvious.

MORRISSEY IS NOT FAMOUS ENOUGH TO HEADLINE a major American festival!!!! How is me saying that he's a has been and that he's not very famous or well known to anyone outside of this site constitute being a troll?

Some of you Morrissey fans are clearly retarded.
