  • It's a fix - Swallowneck (and his carnal ways) should have ensured his place amongst the great and the good here.

    Maybe next year?

  • I listened to this the other day (Monday 24th) on radio 2 when they had Terry Christian on explaining why he thought Morrissey should win this poll. He said some very profound things about our man, so it would be worth a listen if you can get the monday afternoon show up from the website (Jeremy Vine - Monday 12-2.00).

I am human and I need to be loved, just like everybody else does.
  • yes yes mandela/lennon/ali... and morrissey - of course. but david and donny - they were MASSIVE in 70s UK, and i'm sure remain icons to many Radio2 listeners. takes me back to early childhood and (apparently) more innocent pop music - though david trounces many would-be scary rock bands with a proper fan-death at a london concert in 74.

  • Moz is in, er, great company: Terry Wogan, Princess Diana, Lara Croft. Reminds me of that Groucho Marx line about not wanting to belong to any club that would have him as a member...

  • Good grief- I've just checked the Radio 2 website. We're now down to four (or should I say seven?)- The Beatles (including Ringo, presumably?), Princess Di (surprise, surprise, 'yaaaawwwwn' even....), Nelson Mandella (fair play) and TERRY WOGAN (er......).

The only surprise is that the public haven't voted in someone like Elton John, Bono or Bob Geldof- although maybe they were on the shortlist, I've not seen it...

    We live in vaccuous times.....
