On Saturday 29th November, Johnny Marr appeared on Sky One's football programme 'Soccer AM'. Marr was briefly quizzed about his time in The Smiths and was very positive about what they had achieved. The only slightly negative undertone was his implication that Morrissey would never allow him to alter the lyrics during the song writing process. Probably the most interesting question he was asked was "..who did he (Marr) believe was the best frontman ever?" Marr's response after a brief pause for thought?....Mick Jagger circa late 1960's. Surely he cannot be serious? As an fyi, did anyone check out the drummer from 'No Doubt' sporting the classic 'Queen is Dead' T-shirt during a recent interview with MTV. Seems like it's becoming 'cool' again to be a Smiths fan?

Although I never got the chance to see that particular band live at the peek of their fame (cause I wasn't born in the late 60's), I saw many footages of their gigs, heard many tapes, saw them in the 90's and you have to face the truth : the Stones were and still are amazing on stage. While our Moz hardly gives you an 1 hour gig, they grant 2 and a half hour of non-stop hits, even at their age !
One can only imagine what it was like when they were all 20.
We all know what the Rolling Stones are now, just like we all know there's nothing to expect from their recent albums, but it doesn't debase what they once were.
Bowie wouldn't have slept with a lousy singer, would he ?

anyhow, i've constantly seen him on television or in magazines stating how big of an influence 80s music (the smiths, the cure, dm) are to him so he's not fronting. maybe some of the other acts are, but i think he's sincere.
