On Friday Night With Jonathan Ross last Friday (Oct 31), the house band Four Puffs And A Piano introduced Dermot O'Leary with the chorus from Last Of The Famous International Playboys. Dermot responded by blowing them a kiss. A proud moment for all concerned.

  • They've done 'This Charming Man' twice on the show as well. Once when Nigel Havers was on(The Charmer...get it?), and once when Johnathon himself came on at the start of the show one week.
Johnathon Ross has always been a huge fan of Morrissey and The Smiths. Hope he gets Morrissey on the show sometime.

Actually Johnathon has championed Morrissey practically from the start.
When Ross hosted the Amnesty International Concert in 1991, Morrissey performed We Hate It When Our Friends Become Succesful live for the first time.
Morrissey also apeared twice in a row on Ross's early 90's Channel 4 chat show(the title of which escapes me) giving a rare TV outing to I've Changed My Plea To Guilty.
He has also played Glamorous Glue and ...International Playboys this year on his radio show.

As for Radio 2, Steve Wright played Everyday Is Like Sunday just last week, Ken Bruce played The Headmaster Ritual and Please Please Please... recently, and Jeremy Vine usually manages to squeeze a Smiths tune in every now and then.

Radio 1 however seems to have given up altogether. I wonder what their playlist policy will be when/if a new single gets released next year?

        • And it was on Jonathan’s show that Bernard Manning originally paid his moving tribute when The Smiths broke up.

My mum tells me that Jeremy Vine plays Moz records “all the time”, which I suspect is an exaggeration.

I think the new-look Radio Two could be good news for Moz’s record – there’s lots of fans there.

If he does do the show I hope he gets the full programme to himself like Bowie or Madonna. Perhaps he’ll do the chat show circuit. Parkinson? Frank Skinner? Richard & Judy?

Dermot is a well known Moz fan and was at the first night of the Royal Albert Hall gigs ( far shorter than I expected - quite tiddly ) he has been refered to an 'last of the international gayboys' on www.popbitch.com - even though he is a devout roman catholic and getting married next year.....alegedly.
