A German hifi and audiovideo magazine called AUDIO features a CD on the cover of the current November issue, promoted by Harman/Kardon and EMI and including a remastered version of "Everyday Is Like Sunday" by Morrissey. The 8 track CD features "Platinum Pop" titles by artists who will forever be "far beyond todays chart music" as chosen by chief editor L. Brandt. Other artists are Kate Bush, Roxy Music, The Stranglers and Shirley Bassey. There's also an 4-page cover story with a nice picture of young Morrissey by L. Watson, and a review of some EMI CD box sets including Morrissey's CD Singles '88-`99 - described as "ideal for grey November days". Considering that Morrissey is not really existing in the German media this is almost sensational. But on the other hand it's also a hifi magazine for grown-ups...

They inspired some of the biggest German Indie - Rock/Pop Bands who have not forgotten them. One of nicest examples for that is a band called "Tomte" who have a song wich is called "Willhelm, das war nichts" (almost proper translation of "William, it was really nothing"). They also quoted "How Soon Is Now" at their most recent concert.
Also The Smiths are played in the clubs, here in Hamburg we even had a "Smiths-Allnighter" this summer. They are very often mentioned in music magazine articles and the scene is really looking forward to Morrissey's new stuff.

No marks for spotting the one non-German word. (Also, spot the cod-German phrasing. As I am Dutch, I can only aspire to being as good at German as Rudi Carrell or Linda de Mol.)
