Talking of drummers
Morrisseys drummer from his last tour will not be working on this album, instead he's asked drummer Spike back, who was sacked from the tour before the last.

  • Deano was boring as hell. He played like a slow robot.

Spike kicked ass and played with passion and intensity.

I don't know much about technical skill but these are the facts boys and girls.

I am correct. You are welcome.

  • But what happened to this guy. Anybody know what the rift was about? Apparently, Boz and Alain fought for him to return to the band at one time, but Moz would have none of it. I think Spencer was the best drummer Moz has EVER worked with... including Joyce. But what really happened there? Serious answers only, please.

  • And I would gladly see Mike Joyce behind the drum kit. But who am I to say that.

  • It'z going on 7 years already, I could hear one of the muppets on drums and be happy with the new record.

From what I heard, Moz hasn't asked anyone back, but the record will be out in Spring 2004.

  • Recording in L.A.? So generic. Yuck. Makes me think of Guns and Roses (excuse me, "Guns 'N Roses"). I want Morrissey to record in the Wool Hall, near Bath. I just love what that conjures up in my mind. Bleak English landscapes and so forth.

  • drumming!
Apart from a tiny proportion of muso's among us, most of us wouldn't appreciate the difference between the worst and the best drummer that money could buy!
As far as drummers are concerned, all we can really say is...
-It was great the way Dean got all the band together for a bow at the end of the concerts.
-It was also great the way Dean had a cult following ("Deano!") and when Moz introduced him as their best ever drummer.
-We loved the songs Spencer wrote (especially 'Lost' and 'Wide to receive') and we'd love it if he was around to write some similarly brilliant songs.

I feel a bit sad about Dean no longer being involved, if this is true. He seemed like a great guy and, like I said, few of us are able to judge true drumming ability beyond a basic level of competence...

  • I guess that if you accept to roll naked on a bed while someone's taking pictures, then you qualify as a proper Morrissey drummer.
(And if you're a bit imaginative, there are a lot of things you can do with drum sticks and get very special thanks for, right Spencer?)

Q Whats your working regime here?

A I dont work. I never really have. I just exist and be. In terms of making records, a couple of the band live here. Boz has his other work and some of the others like SPENCER prefer to work only for me so they just tend to their fressias and wait for the call(should that be fax)

      What does this mean?

  • Rumour has it that they are just recording the Christmas single titled Swingtime Xmas for an early December release. They are slated in February to get back together and record the album.
    Anonymous -- Friday October 03 2003, @07:51PM (#75805)
    • and then they will go back in february and record one more song. then, they will go on tour for 6 months before they return to the studio to record yet another song fresh off the tour for their new album before they take another break for 4 months as everyone splits for their side projects and recoups from the hectic schedule.

the album will be completed in the year 2008 and contain a total of 7 songs with a running time of 28 minutes.

  • I saw Dean back Boz for his solo rockabilly project, in Los Angeles sometime last Spring. He was very hard on the skins and gave a flawless performance. I had also been VERY critical of him, the volume...the demeanor...but when I saw him play with Boz I was awe stricken. He was hard on his kit. I talked to him after the show. I told them that I was amazed at how powerful he played that night. He said that was the way he likes to play. I told them they needed to fire their sound guy then. He replied saying that MORRISSEY DOES NOT LIKE the drums standing out too much and added that if it was up to him, he'd be busting in his drum heads at every show. In any case, I also learned that night that he drums for Ben Harper, and is one of the innocent criminals. So, that being the case, he mos tlikely really busy touring with ben harper right now. The End.

  • I saw Morrissey and his band in Hamburg on the tour 2000 and it was disgusting and heartbreaking to hear every song being beaten to death by the worst drummer I've ever heard! He could'nt even count to three, Boz and Alain had to count him in on every song - it was umiliating to see Morrissey turn away in shame! And now he is drumming on the new album! It can't be true.

I guess you have to be a drummer to appreciate deano's drumming. I personally think his tempo was best. Spencer was great, but he played some of the songs too fast (you're gonna need someone on you're side, for example). Spike was great, too, but he played some of the songs a little slow (hairdresser on fire). Deano played at almost the perfect tempo on most of the songs like hairdresser. the sound of his snare was perfect, while spencer often used a flatter snare sound in his live performance. anyway, i just thought i'd share.

  • Lets face it, Spike never had a single chant written for him.

On the other hand, at so many venues on the last tour we enjoyed...

"Deano, Deano, Deano, Deano, Deano, Deano, Deano, Deano, Deano" etc

    Now that was poetry.
