While reviewing British Sea Power's new single "Remember Me" Heat Magazine's Boyd Hilton mentions that he thinks Morrissey likes them, and says how that is normally the kiss of death for a band, and names Bradford and one other (I think he says Marion.)

  • With or without Morrissey's liking the band they only have a 1 in 100 shot of making it. Good luck!

  • Whatever he did to The Thrills, it doesn't seem to work :)

  • I liked the single 'Carrion', but 'Remember Me' doesn't do it for me.

They were signed by Geoff Travis, who seems to have Morrissey's taste (well naturally).

Remember Me is an anti-monarchy song, which explains a lot.

  • marion were a great band. they put out 2 excellent albums. the 2nd one was produced by none other than johnny marr. didn't they support morrissey on the boxers tour?

as for bradford...have their first(and only?) album with their version of skin storm. althought their version is slighty better than morrissey's rendition, i didn't like the rest of the album.

btw, are BSP worth checking out? i've heard good things about them but i never see any of their stuff at the shops here in the US. have they not signed a deal w/ a US label?

  • BSP are a truly astonishing band - and fantastic live, the album is bloody great, and they have a top draw website ( www.britishseapower.co.uk/ )

wether they make it or not has nothing to do with Morrissey and the kiss of death - we just live in a world of Kylie and Brittny (sp ) fans.

    sad, but all too true.

  • I remember back in 1997 when Richard Blade of KROQ fame interviewed Morrissey (the interview where he asked Mozzer to "DJ", not the terrible Jed the Fish interview that came with the Maladjusted CD). At one point in time, Richard asked Moz what he was currently listening to. Moz replied "Have you heard of Travis?" To which Richard replied, "Erm, no." This was probably just after their first album, two years before their bestselling "The Man Who".

  • Boyd Hilton "thinks" Morrissey likes them ???? Thanks, Boyd, How reliable is that??!!?? Go back to slanderous "Heat"!!

One thing that Moz appreciates, I reckon, apart from a little bit of musical talent, is "presentation"... Sonia and the other guy from Echobelly were cool, the lead singer from Marion was well cute and although not Mexican, had nice hair (!) and BritishSeaPower have got cool artwork on their album cover and that's a pretty cool band name to start with...

  • the Morrissey 'kiss of death' thing is utter bollocks.
in actuality, Moz has an incredibly GOOD success rate of championing bands who go on to be successful, helped along by his endorsement.
Suede, Echobelly (had two top ten albums in a row), James, Travis, The Thrills, etc.

so it's more a kiss of life than death.

  • Saw British Sea Mongers live in London supporting Gene. I fell asleep halfway through...only to wake up for Gene...then fell asleep again almost instantly after Gene's first song.
The music scene of England is SHITE! and it has been since The Smiths' demise.
I think I'm falling asleep again.
