Article: Nancy Sinatra - Singer puts 'boots' back on to revive music career - 2theadvocate.com (July 18, 2003)

Here are the highlights:

The unreleased Morrissey track is deeply sad, no surprise to the melancholy Mancunian's fans.

"He wrote a beautiful song that's just heartbreaking. One of the lines is, 'Close your eyes and think of someone you physically admire,' and then at the end he says, 'You open your eyes and find someone you physically despise,' which is so typically Morrissey. He is the sweetest guy, and he's a real fan of mine. He's so self-deprecating that I wanted to shake him."

The participation of Morrissey, Reno, Cocker and Bono may help Sinatra find a record company for her album-in-the-works. She's been unable to find a label for her reunion project with Lee Hazelwood, her producer and gravel-toned duet partner for such haunting '60s hits as "Summer Wine" and "One Velvet Morning."

Record companies, the singer lamented, "they want either really established older people like Cher or young new people. I just don't fit in anywhere, so it's pretty tricky. But I guess the people contributing to the album might put it over the top. One can only hope. I almost signed with the same label as Morrissey. Maybe I should have taken that deal. Regrets, I've had a few."

  • If you want to physically admire Nancy the way Morrissey does, have a look at the Playboy pictures on her site.
Bono and Jarvis saw them and it inspired them instantly.

  • Incredible she can't find a label. You'd think with a name like that, and let's face it, some pretty good popsongs to her credit, she'd find one like that. That just says everything about the music business these days, no style, no substance, no risks. Fie upon them.

Btw, that song she did with Lee Hazlewood's not called "One Velvet Morning", but "Some Velvet Morning". Just thought I'd clear that up.

    Leave your future behind you.
  • These might be the most shallow set of lyrics Morrissey has ever written.

I hope they're out of context.

As usual, though, Morrissy fans will likely talk of how beautiful they are, regardless of their actual context, or meaning.

No, he is a real fan of your father. Just like everyone else you have met in your life.

alas, poor Nancy. She needs our help, ya know.
Ya see, the tale of her first meeting with our beloved Mozzer happened a few years back, at a Hollywood pub which I will not disclose.
Anyhoo, she is smoking a fine Cuban cigar, when Moz comes up fom behind her, and says :
"Why ..why you're Nancy Sinatra! It is ever so happy to finally meet & greet you!"

She responds with a "Ahh fuck off ya mick! Can't ya see I'm busy wit me palsy Jackie D. over 'ere?"
"Oh, well, I'm sorry..." says Steven.
"Ah, don' leave, I am ever so lonely..."

"Really?" Mozza reacts. "I feel that way too, sometimes, ...always..."

Nancy laeps from her barstool and says "Face it Tiger, you just hit the jackpot!"

  • Does anyone know how it came to fruition that Morrissey wrote a song for Nancy Sinatra? I have heard from 2 reliable sources that they are lovers and talking about living together. Could marriage be that far off? If anyone else has heard this rumour please say so.

  • I can't believe she of all people is having trouble with a label. I mean, she is a legend. And it's not just because of her father, either. I guess the fact that these record executives were born in 1995 might have something to do with it.

  • To put you influence hound dogs on the case, Nancy AND Elvis starred in "Speedway" - perhaps it was here that Mr. Mozzer first fell in love (doubly in love).

  • Am I the only one is who is puzzled by this sudden adoration of Nancy Sinatra?

Is Nancy one of those American artists who capitivate British audiences while remaning B List at home?

As far as I'm aware, Nancy is a one hit wonder from the 60's. "These Boots are Made for Walking" is far from genius.

So all of this fanfare for an old one hit wonder bag is somewhat perplexing indeed.

By reading that don't you think it sounds like he's talking about himself when he says "You open your eyes and find someone you physically despise" ? The song is called Let ME Kiss You.

Why are you people always so damn nasty?
