I was looking around the Q & A section on the XTC website and some fan asks a question about signing Morrissey to Andy Partridge (XTC's main frontman) new-ish label..

Q - Is an established artist such a Morrisey a viable signing for Idea/Ape or are you looking to introduce new bands only ? - Potato

A - Firstly old Pots, Idea will not be used for anybody other than XTC, and as for Ape, well ...

As for Morrisey, he’s probably looking for a whopping loan (called an advance in the industry) something I couldn’t supply. To be honest I don’t like his music much but I do like the fact that he’s stubborn and does what he wants. - AP

(not suprising i must say, Andy actually mentions The Smiths on his CD 'Fuzzy Warbles Vol. 1' in the song 'That Wag' -- he mockingly imitates Moz, Robert Smith and Bob Dylan. Wow, Andy's mean -- i once remember him saying he'd give his right arm to be the drummer for def leppard)

  • Who cares what an old has been from Radio Norwich thinks about Morrissey!
"Anyway it's 5:20am and here's XTC with 'Making Plans For Nigel', up next *whispering* Bob Harris".
