Not that this is news, but it is thought-provoking. I'm not sure how Morrissey got stuck beside the likes of Chaucer, Shakespeare and Dickens, but accordingy to Lonely Planet's site for English culture, Morrissey is among those literary greats/figures. If they didn't mean our Mozzer, whoever do they mean?

Check it out for yourselves:

Lonely Planet World Guide - England

Excerpt:

Anyone who has studied English literature at school will remember ploughing through Chaucer, Shakespeare, Dickens and Morrissey, and painful though it might have been at the time, no-one can deny England's formidable contribution to the Western literary canon.

  • That's interesting. I certainly would rank Moz up there on the genius-scale. His words are definitely poignant enough to be considered inspiring and thought-provoking -- much in the same fashion as Wilde or Shakespeare. It isn't too difficult to compare him to the literary greats. :)

Anything is hard to find when you will not open your eyes.
  • More than a comment I want to ask how contemporary writers on England (born between 1968 - 1976) consider Morrisey's work as singer-songwriter. See him as a writer on his own right or see him as fortunate accident in England's rock history?

  • Pardon my Yank ignorance, but they have "Salvation Army" listed as a Protestant sect. Is that for real?
