Radio Four has a show on at the moment called 'Armitage and Moore's Guide To Song'. It's in three parts and airs on Tuesdays from 1.30pm-2.00pm. Part one was broadcast last week, but can be found at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/progs/listenagain.shtml Not sure if, or when, it will be replaced by part two, which will be about the ways in which the performance effects the meaning of the song. Moore teaches a Popular Music course and Armitage is a poet. The first show covered the use of character in song, and one of the tracks discussed was 'Reel Around The Fountain'. It wasn't nearly as sophisticated as I would have hoped, but if you would like to hear Morrissey and Richard Clayderman mentioned in the same breathe then it's certainly worth giving it a go. Be warned - Natalie Merchant is also featured.
