Radio Four has a show on at the moment called 'Armitage and Moore's Guide To Song'. It's in three parts and airs on Tuesdays from 1.30pm-2.00pm. Part one was broadcast last week, but can be found at:

Not sure if, or when, it will be replaced by part two, which will be about the ways in which the performance effects the meaning of the song.

Moore teaches a Popular Music course and Armitage is a poet. The first show covered the use of character in song, and one of the tracks discussed was 'Reel Around The Fountain'. It wasn't nearly as sophisticated as I would have hoped, but if you would like to hear Morrissey and Richard Clayderman mentioned in the same breathe then it's certainly worth giving it a go. Be warned - Natalie Merchant is also featured.
