Alain Whyte played 2 of his Motivators songs live on Liz Kershaw's show today Monday 30th June. The 2 songs he played solo and live in the studio were called Where You Ever in My Life and Stuck. Inbetween those 2 Liz played Black Dog Day from a demo CD.

His guitar playing was very good and his singing wasn't bad at all but I'm sure it will be available for anyone interested to listen to soon on the website http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/presenters/liz_kershaw/

He said he wanted to get the Motivators tracks recorded properly perhaps with Brendan Lynch producing before they made the Morrissey album. Which he said they would probably be recording in October.

  • I thought it was a really good session. Alain gave a bit of insight on why he was doing some other work, and who was in the band. I think the versions of these tunes sounded excellent on acoustic..his voice was really good also. Were you ever in my life, is a really good tune, I have heard it previously and hope some people on this board listen to it, much different then the demo posted here. All in all I think the band show a lot of promise, and the link between Alain and Moz seems to be "business as usual" so come October let's see what happens..

  • I think it's sort of funny that a person on the Discussion board had spoken to Gaz, who seemed to know nothing about this October business. Despite being best friends, apparently Alain keeps him on "stand by" with info, too!

  • All this suspence will be the end of me, just hope i hear the "new" Morrissey album before i pop my clogs. So much for the new album been released in October, sounds like they haven't even started recording any of it yet, unless Mozzers started the vocals on his own. I'm sure songs like "The first of the gang to die" seem quite old now, i'm not sure how many of the new ones aired on the tour will actually make it on there anyway. They must have at least 3 albums worth of material...which can't be a bad thing surely! The wait goes on but at least the wheels are in motion, it's something i'm really looking forward to, draft John Cale in to do the twiddling i say!

    regards!

  • ...........hold on didn't i read on this site, that the mozz album was gonna be recorded immediately, so much for that.
if they dont start recording until october its not gonna be in the shops till at least february.............

i think we were all kind of hoping that as recording has started on the new album ( as journos reported) it will hit the shops in otober.
i also read this on part of a santuary article and a link to an attack newsletter.

    damn...........

  • Stop me if you've read this before somewhere on this site but it seems the Marc Bolan connection lives on through Alan Whyte these days (remember The Polecats covering 'Jeepster' and Momo himself 'Cosmic Dancer'): 'The Motivator' is a song on T.Rex's classic album 'Electric Warrior' and 'Baby Strange' is one on 'The Slider'... convinced ?

  • Last night's gig was a blast! I enjoyed it hugely and was very impressed.

The whole thing started late, with the first support (some woeful racket) on at 9.00, so the Motivators didn't hit the stage until nearly 11.00. They looked great (does Gary Day have a hideous portrait in his attic? He doesn't seem to have aged one day!), sounded great and were clearly having fun.

Then the bass drum failed - how rare is that? And what's rarer? They found a spare bass drum in the wine bar downstairs!! Bizarre.

They've definitely got some cracking songs there, and only one or two sounded a bit 'ploddy'. Alain's voice was great and his playing was something else! I had no idea he was such an exceptional guitarist. Must say that Gary shone too with some fantastic bass lines. Seriously talented chaps - it's good to see them doing this, and very good to know it's still business as usual with them and Morrissey.

Try to catch 'em live if you can - well worth it.

  • Last night's gig at the Spitz was phenomenal. Outstanding.

The songs are effortless, and they played (and sang) extremely well.

On the strength of a show like this one, they are going to make it big.

Morrissey will no doubt want to STEAL these songs. Don't know if it's mainly Alain Whyte or Gary Day who wrote them but they kick serious arse.

    Simply amazing stuff...

CJ, if you read this: you still owe me twelve quid for the curry. Ta.
  • can someone make mp3s of the Motivators stuff available? Please e-mail me personally. I've got an ftp site you could house them on. Thanks!

    p.s.
I didn't like that 'Baby I'm Strange' song at all, it sounded like cheesy '80's cock-rock.
