Much thanks to lutewhine for encoding "The Importance of Being Morrissey" in MPEG format. Part 1 (of 4) is available for download now. The full size version is the most recent encoding with improved sound and frame rate and is highly recommended over the smaller version. Links to parts 2, 3 and 4 will be posted later. Please help mirror the files/use file sharing programs if you can as I may have to pull the files later in case the server is overwhelmed.

Right-click the link and choose "save target" (or equivalent) to save the file to your local hard disk.
  • "The Importance of Being Morrissey", Part 1 of 4 full size (115MB, 15:15 320x240 MPEG format) [server overloaded, link removed]
  • Small size part 1 of 4 (17.4MB, 220x140 MPEG format) [server overloaded, link removed]

    • I had problems with Windows Media Player and Real Player. Therefore, through some direction Idownloaded another free video player, with a codec to handle the video, and then downloaded an audio codec to handle the Tab 85 audio format. If you are interested then give this a spin:

      (1) Goto: http://www.divx.com/divx/
Then download and install the FREE "DivX Pro."

      (2) Goto: http://www.softnews.ro/public/cat/11/1/2/11-1-2-10.shtml
Then download and install the FREE "Fraunhofer Radium MP3 codec v1.263 Profesional"

      (3) Through Explorer or My Computer browse to the file of the video, right-click on it, and choose "Open With". Browse the available programs and choose the DivX Player, which should now (hopefully) be successfully installed and on your PC.

      (4) Go crazy over Moz (if you've made it this far)

  • It's worth mentioning that "Jane" is in fact the poster Mozzerian, who frequents the marketplace. There was some controversy a year or so ago with him setting up multiple eBay identities, and then bidding on his own auctions to increase his feedback and also up the bids on his items.

His DVD sales may well be legitimate, but be warned that he is a dodgy, mean spirited bastard. He keeps slagging Lutewhine and DavidT off in the marketplace, even though they have done this for free. Don't believe his claimes about the quality of the MPEGs - they may not be _quite_ as good as a DVD, but remember that this doco will be released officially anyway. Why waste 20 quid now when you'll be able to buy a "real" copy sometime soon anyway.

Download and enjoy I say ...

  • I guess gone are the days of ASK where you could trade off bits and bobs for the price of a kiss and a postage stamp.

I think I even got a few vhs tapes sent to me by generous, like-minded enthusiasts back in those jolly days. For fair trade, of course.

But in my modern-day naivete, I thought Mr. Jane Winston replied to my previous post with similar good-heartedness, until the hefty price of $20 was revealed!

And as for the others who are trying to make some loot from something they recorded off the television - you are hereby stripped of your "Morrissey Fan" titles.

  • when people start getting the dvd who have ordered i hope they have the balls to come on here and say that YES they got it and what they thought of it, if you want to download it fine, that's great, but not everyone is having success with that or have the patience/disc space/know how for it.

Those doubters who were not sure whether to order, when you see that others have got theirs no problem, you will have to wait another week or so from ordering.

  • If people want to pay for a dvd copy of this programme, what's the big deal - if you don't want to pay, then download it. Some people have 56K connections or worse and do not live in the UK. Waiting 6 months for the sanctuary 'possible' release isn't much consolation.
It annoys me when people become righteous and holy over these issues.

This is my opinion - everyone has the right to think in the way they wish. I will send over $20.00 for my copy to mozzerien, it's not exactly an arm and a leg for such an amazing sounding documentary.

  • Is the sound good and the video bad at all (or vice versa?) I'd like to think that for the size file that we're talking about, we're looking at some good quality stuff, but want to be sure.

Any word on when part 2 will be available?

  • I was one of many who keep trying to download the file (via DSL, no less) only to find it was going to take 3+ hours and then having it quit before getting 25% done.

THEN I went to download.com and got Internet Download Manager 3.15 (free trial). It is now 50% done after only 10 MINUTES!

    GET THIS PROGRAM NOW.

P.S. I am NOT affiliated with this program or company in any way (this is not a solicitation).

  • Had some trouble downloading through Safari, so I used iGetter and downloaded it in around 30 minutes (DSL connection in Japan). Used DivX Doctor II to massage it and it played perfectly.

To the filmmakers: just a great, great job (this is only after seeing 15 minutes, mind). People are complaining about it not going deep enough, but I think more importantly, you've really captured the enigma of the man through the combination of his own words, image, and music and your team's filmmaking talents. Hats off.

  • I've had problems with players:
1)Windows Media Player, no video, only sound
    2) Real Player --:--
    3) Divx-Player, video but no sound...

After getting Gspot to analyze the file I saw that only one codec for video was present although I downloaded and installed Divx-stuff from the Divx-site. I decided to try Nimo and finally it works. I can now watch it in any player..., so if you have trouble try Nimo...

So anyone who wants it can have it for $5 or something like that, just to cover the postage and dvd cost, or if you want it on CD I'll do it cheaper. I'll find out exactly how much it will cost me to do, profit-free. Screw you, you slimey money makers.
