Mark Nicholson writes:

David Bret is starting work on his second Morrissey book, with the working title "Return To Sanctuary". The book will not be an update of his 1994 biography Landscapes Of The Mind. It will aim to be an appraisal of various facets of Morrissey's entire career.

David always maintained that he believed that Morrissey had the ability to semi-retire from the music business like the French singer Barbara for a number of years, only to make a comeback stronger than ever. With the slight media frenzy that is surrounding Morrissey here in the UK at the moment, Bret could be right!

  • will it have pop-up pictures, and little tabs that you can pull to make it look like boz is playing a guitar and moz is singing?

    I scare dead people.
  • This 'article' is very positive and uplifting- it compares Morrissey to a phoenix rising from the flames! I cannot wait!!!

  • The only book worth reading on Morrissey will be Morrissey's own book - these people are (yet again) trying to cash in on his name and his talent. Will these people ever go away ?

Surely, his book is going to be the one that is worth waiting for, either that or another book containing more wonderful Morrissey photographs by Linder.

  • David Bret's last Morrissey book was ATROCIOUS! Landscapes Of The Mind is crap. The idea of a sequel is ludicrous, this is such a cash in.

The revised Landscapes... went up to Southpaw. So Bret is gonna write a book about, erm, Maladjusted and the 6 year wait? Who is he kidding?

I agree with the above post. The majority of Smiths/Moz related books are cash-ins; eg-Cummins photos, Mark Simpson's ahem "psycho-biog". This is really depressing. The Smiths aside (only 2 books worth their salt are Rogan's and Goddard's), nobody's written a decent book on the solo years and Bret is NOT the man for the job. This must be a case of publishing houses noticing the media buzz right now and thinking of a way to cash-in and fleece your average moz-solo.com user.

Return to Sanctuary? Bret should return to obscurity more like.

I thought for a moment that this was about David BRENT!

as a fans of "The Office" with Ricky Gervais - I think it would have been FAR FUNNIER.

  • I would like to draw Mr Bret's attention, and those of his foolhardy publishers, to the recent opinion poll on this site about the best Moz/Smiths related book.

Landscapes Of The Mind accrued a laughable 4% of the vote. If that isn't an implicit message for Bret to piss off and stick to his Maurice Chevalier biogs then I don't know what is.
