After last week's Guide front cover, Morrissey gets a mention in the Guardian again today on page 5 in a story about the signing. The piece is accompanied by a photo of one of the Albert Hall gigs (not online):

Main story
Misfit Morrissey finds new niche by signing with reggae label by Jeevan Vasagar, The Guardian (June 7, 2003)

Extra wibbly bit
The man to bring provocation back into pop by Alexis Petridis, The Guardian (June 7, 2003)

In the Guide, The Importance of Being Morrissey gets a little write-up as it has been selected as one of the 'picks of the day':

Since he decamped to LA in the early 1990s, reams of print have been generated in praise, condemnation and defense of the former Smiths lynchpin. So what does this good-humoured, down-to-earth and lantern-jawed Mancunian have to say in explanation of his life and art? Well, not a lot, really. This rare interview reveals that Moz has found some peace in his life, although it'd seem there are parts of it which he still keeps at arm's length. Somehow, this only serves to make him even more lovable.

“• Alexis Petridis is the Guardian's rock critic “

    Hmmm

  • That would be cool. I can't for the life of me remember who is doing vocals for the Misfits now, but they should move aside for Moz. What a great lineage... Glen Danzig, Michale Graves, and Moz. It can't be that hard to turn a pompadour into a devillock. Well, one can dream.

  • Stick to Iraq coverage, 'Guardian'. Still, now I REALLY believe that the new album will happen, as some elements of the press drag out their hatchet-men. But most of the press has been good - the time is right for a Morrissey return. As for the "reggae is vile" remark - people change, and I wouldn't want to be held accountable to some thoughts I shared years ago. Though perhaps I should be.

I'm stoked that the inertia is gone. Quite a turnaround from 3 weeks ago, when I felt this site was doomed to speculate on guitar chord changes Morrissey might like to use. Feast or famine - I think this site will improve dramatically with the new info we can finally speculate on.

    Good to be back.
