On MTV2 I was checking out a video from A.F.I. recording thier new album. The singer Davey Havok was putting up posters in his vocal booth for vocal inspiration and Morrissey is one he mentions.

  • Davey Havok is a big MOZ fan. I was at the Vegas show last September and Davey of AFI was there too!

  • If anyone has the "All Hollows E.P." by A.F.I, one of the guitar player (his name escapes me at the moment) is sporting a Morrissey T-shirt. Blew me away when I first got that E.P. a few years ago, since I never would have thought a heavy punk band like this would have Smiths/Moz influences.

  • I heard a song by them the other day that I kind of liked. That Davey Havok guy looks like an interesting fellow. Hmm... :)

  • I am a lil' sick of that band getting "critical acclaim" in various punk scenes, even by people who should know better. I don't care if the singer listens to nothing but Bauhaus and sleeps in a coffin, or if he plays shows dressed as Ziggy Stardust and has 16 Morrissey tattoos. The band sounds like PENNYWISE, they are a rotten major label tenth rate jock-punk band.

  • I recently attended an AFI show in Minneapolis and had the pleasure of meeting Davey and the guitarist, Jade. They were both very nice guys, and both expressed interest in my boyfriend's Smiths shirt. I've seen many pictures of Jade wearing both Smiths and Morrissey solo shirts, and in an article from Alternative Press magazine titled 'My Bloody Valentine', Davey lists 'Angel, Angel, Down We Go Together' as one of his favorite love songs. The article is in the press section of their site if anyone is interested. It's up to you if you want to brand them sell-outs or just out to get all the Morrissey fans, but I see them as a group that became successful through a lot of hard work that took inspiration from some very good bands.

  • who is AFI? or should i say what?
Ive heard OF them but ive never actually heard any of their material.

Perhaps i'll give them a chance.
But arent they in the same category as say...good charlotte or new found glory or some other crap like that? hmmm...

  • ok so afi worked hard for years building a fan base by playing as much as possible anywhere they could, the head of nitro records told them to go to a bigger label, so they're sellouts how? Besides if thats the case everyone on a major label is a sellout, meaning the only musician whos not sellout is morrissey becouse he doesn't even have a record deal.

  • I'm not so surprised to hear Davey likes Morrissey. When AFI started off they were OK, and now that they are relatively bad, people like them better, and they are now another super popular awful teen pop whatever band. Where's the originality in the world?

  • god who the hell cares? God forbid a band become popular. who cares if they dedicated their lives to their music, they're popular now they must be sellouts right? jesus who cares if some one is on the radio or if teens like them. Morrissey used to be on the radio and tv all the time does that make him a sellout? I'm so sick of all these idiots with no concept of what its like to be a musician working hard just so some one will listen to you telling me so and so is a sellout just because they're populer. the sad fact is those people need to make money too, so dont be assholes just because they're lucky enough too live out their dreams.

  • moz is a great influence to have, but since AFI sucks it really doesn't matter. The are not heavy, hard, or even punk. They are a danzig wannabe joke band.
