I just spoke to a rep from Reprise records who claims that Morrissey was spotted at a Disturbed show in L.A. "headbanging and singing along" near the soundboard. Do you think this is true? I would like to think so, since I'm a Disturbed fan as well.

Well, so much for the horrible-state-of-American-music talk we've recently heard from Morrissey. Not ONLY did Moz attend last night's (April 15)Disturbed concert in Los Angeles, but he ALSO asked to go backstage to MEET the band. My God, the world really IS ending afterall. Pete Yorn, Eminem, Weezer, heck, even a Justin Timberlake show would be worth it for the laughs, but WHY Disturbed Morrissey? Please, tell us that you were "dared" to go there by a close friend or something! Tell us it was a mistake. Convince me NOT to surgically "repair" my "Moz" tattoo because I am "truly disappointed" to hear this "horrible" news. Please tell us it was all a sick joke!

Is it THAT big of a deal?

  • Their first album was called "The Sickness." I'm sure Moz was drawn to that.

Maybe that guy who posted in the Tony Wilson discussion about Morrissey being possessed by the devil knows something we don't know...:)

  • users on this site have a nasty habit of projecting their own limited, subjective tastes and preferences unto others.

people forget that Morrissey listens to ALOT of disposable/questionable music, esp from the 60's.

i find all the Britney bashing amusing as Morrissey avidly listens to early 60's girl groups.

  • Oh shut up you should have never got the tattoo if it would be that easily repaired over a stupid show he attended. Have you not ever been criticized by others for listening to Morrissey? I have aplenty, and really it's noone elses buisness if I listen to him. Same for Morrissey, he can listen to the hell whatever he wants. Grow up kid.

  • To worry over...I'm not a fan of Disturbed, but come on... who cares if Morrissey went to go see their show and wanted to meet them? I'm sure you listen to something he doesn't approve of. He can do whatever he damn pleases!!

  • I'm having flashbacks to the nasty comments that were made ages ago because apparently Morrissey had lunch with Courtney Love. Has anyone considered that it just may be alright for Morrissey to have a PRIVATE life, and for him to enjoy things that HE likes without criticism from his fans?

I'd be frightened to know what his fans do with THEIR free time. Morrissey seeing a band that his fans may not listen to just doesn't floor me that much.

  • Why would this come as a surprise to anyone, since we all know he has a thing for the Apex Theory? I mean, Disturbed does suck, but hey....I'm sure a lot of people that listen to Disturbed would think the music I listen to(ie. Morrissey) sucks?

  • I think Disturbed is ok. I can always tell when they are on the Radio as the sound is distinct. HEAVY bands like that are always at risk for no air-play and yet that was what they recorded. If that is who Morrissey wants to see live then he should. In fact, if we are going to be critical over this, shouldn't we criticize him for teaming up with a bunch of rockabilly musicians when there is probably like .01% of Morrissey fans own a rockabilly record and even less if you take out all those who do because of the Morrissey influence.

  • maybe moz just wanted to go out without having people following him around (hmmm... another website comes to mind) and what better place to hang out and kick it where there are no moz fans bothering him... a disturbed show. i definitely would not have gone to such a show, but cheers to moz!

  • Can we disagree that modern music is in a state? No.

Does that mean that we cannot like any modern music? No.

Is going to see a band live to find out if we like them a crime? No.

Does Morrissey have to do everything according to a preconceived Morrissey stereotype? No.

Does Morrissey have to have "our" approval for everything he does? No.

Is it enough that he has crafted the most beautiful music I've ever heard? Yes, it is.

  • I agree -- who cares?

Just because you nor I prefer Disturbed doen't mean Moz can't listen to them. Frankly, they creep me out, especially the lead singer, whose chin piercings are just plain freaky... ack, anyway... So what? Let him be himself and enjoy different types of music. Variety is the essence of life.

  • I actualy quite like Disturbed, im not even 1% the Disturbed fan that I am Morrissey or The Smiths, but I still quite like them.

The thing is, like Morrissey I think that most music that is "popular" and being produced these days is pretty much crap, but if a song or band come along that I just like, im gonna like them.
I'm not gonna forgo what I think is good music just to affirm my beliefs in the state of music these days.
There are some bands/artists that I just flat out hate and never liked anything they do like Eminem, Nirvana and the Chillie Peppers.
But other bands like Tatu, now while I hate how they butchered How Soon Is Now? and I agree that the whole Lesbian gimmick is a damn smart way of selling the product better, I like that song "All the things she said"
I'm not gonna hide it, if I like it, I like it.

So I think the same should go to Moz, if you just like something, like it, doesnt mean you are contradicting yourself, Morrissey never said he hated ALL the modern music out these days, he says the state that the music industry is in is pretty shocking, and I believe so to, however there are some very bright shining lights out there that are producing great music, wheather they are mainstream or not.
For instense, Live are bringing out a new album in May and it is just going to be awesome, they are semi-main stream/alternitive and its just awesome music.

So yeah, leave old poor Moz alone, he can like what he likes, no one said you have to.
And with your tatoo, if your Mum likes something you dont like, are you gonna cut your fingers off? she was the one that inspired those fingers by simpley giving you life, so I think getting it removed is just like ... drastic and if you are doing that because someone likes a different band then you, then you have ALOT more important issues to deal with other then this.

As much as I would like to say that it is no big deal, sorry guys, it is. Disturbed sucks and so does most of the other artists Moz seems to be jamming to lately. What I think is so funny is that anytime you see MOz, he would never think to play one of those bands before his show. He is probably ashamed. Maybe it's just me but I definitely feel; cheated to know he out there listening to such shit. Maybe that is why he cannot write a decent song anymore. He can't decide if he wants to sound like Perry Como or Limp Bizkit.

  • It's sort of upsetting that we have to get worked up about who Morrissey lsitens to. Who cares? Who can honestly say that they never listened to a band and then hated them a few years later anyways? So leave the poor man alone, he's making an effort to delve into the ugly world of popular music.

  • It would seem that a lot of Morrissey's fans are "disturbed" over...nothing.

I have no idea who Disturbed are, but I don't think it's a big deal if Morrissey should like this band and want to go out and enjoy their show. Give the guy a little peace. Jeeeezzz.

  • I don't care who Morrissey goes to see in concert, and I certainly don't see where anyone gets off writing an open post to Moz proclaiming an end to their fan-ness in him just because of who he sees. What a tiny mind (and probably something else, no doubt) to whine about this, and think that self-mutilation would make Moz give two shits about what the soon-to-be-ex-fan thinks about his taste in music. Grow the hell up or go listen to some "artiste" who is mind-numbed and unable to have a variety of tastes in music.
