Steven Mark writes:

Well-respected Baseball writer/ analyst for the Boston Globe and ESPN gives the Boston Red Sox bullpen their very own Smiths theme song.

Excerpt:

Boston's bullpen blew the opening game when Alan Embree and Chad Fox coughed up a 4-1 ninth-inning lead. The Red Sox lost the fifth game when Fox walked in the winning run and in between were twice saved by a throw to the plate to avoid another loss and blown save. In its first five games, the much-publicized Committee allowed 17 earned runs in 24 innings and was 0-for-3 in save opportunities.

The Smiths' "Panic" may be playing on every FM station from Bangor to Block Island and supermarket register clerks know that there are eight active relievers with more career saves than the combined 187 career saves of The Committee.

"there's shakespeare on BBC2 but all the drama's here"
"this tournament couldnt get anymore exciting if the king of Rock and Roll himself, Elvis Presley, was to walk into the bar and order a chip butty."
"there's only one word for that-magic darts"

  • Dear Jim,

    Nomar Garciaparra for commissioner!

    Sincerely,

    Peter Gammons
Arch-Bishop for the Boston Red Sox

Nice to see a sports reference here on M-Solo. For those of you who don't know Peter Gammons, he's the guy on ESPN who constantly jocks anything and everything Boston. Especially the Socks. Put it this way; if they sent the Socks' bullpen to Iraq, this guy would be on the front lines. Die hard Boston fan, gotta respect loyalty like that.

    ...and how?
  • Is not Rome the one that compares Gammons to Andrew Jackson?

...and Venus Williams as the Predator?

...and calls Martina Navratolova (sp?), Martin?

Freaking hilarious! I could go on, but you'll have to listen to Rome.

    Late!

  • ...that Gammons even knows who the Smiths are!

As a life long Red Sox fan, it's kinda cool that this is on here. And yes, it's true, Peter Gammons is a blatant Sox fan when he should be more unbiased seeing as how he's on national TV ;)

  • that's something else I forgot in my last take, being the Arch-Bishop of Boston has yet another advantage, you get your face on the $20 bill!
