Morrissey & Marr-donna!
Just read in the latest Q Magazine (May 03)..

Madonna interview: 'Life in Los Angeles, she says, is quiet. She's been taking guitar lessons for the past two years and strums along to Neil Young, Radiohead and The Smiths for fun.'

Can't he sign to Sire?!

There isn't a Sire Records anymore. WEA put it together with London a few years ago, then folded the labels altogether, so now all existing releases with the Sire and London logos are just Warner/Reprise releases with a different logo on them.

  • Couldn't he sign to Madonna's label Maverick. Sounds appropriate. Perhaps they could duet "If you were the only self-publicising, head-up-your-ass girl in the world and I was the only boy"

  • Mandonna (Slagdonna) is over-hyped.

Is she trying to be cool or something?

  • She is nowadays a publicity hound. Her days as a struggling songstress in New York are far over. She is incredibly talented; too bad her talent has been misdirected and commercialized to death. She has exploited herself to the 'nth' degree. She can no longer try to hope for artistic integrity. Especially after that awful James Bond deal. Her self-sexualization was in the worst possible taste. Remember that horrible book with Vanilla Ice? How about Body of Evidence?

I really am in NO POSITION to judge Madge whatsoever. I can, however, take up arms when she decides to strum to the Smiths!

I mean, COME ON! Honestly, can you picture her on a sofa in a coffee-house singing UNLOVEABLE while strumming a six-string?

Would those two CONES be on or off for the performance?
    URGGH I am angry.

  • After Madonna released LIKE A PRAYER in 1989 Morrissey actually said that he was impressed with her and the way she stuck two fingers up to "authority", and took back his earlier comments. Any Moz fan knows that!

And let's face it - Moz does need the publicity.

"Mandonna", "Hagdonna", "Slagdonna" - you are showing up us Morrissey fans, please try to think of a slightly better put down than those. Gawd, you'll get a journo job at the (E)MNE with those "puns"!

  • You know..i've been a HUGE madonna fan since I was 11 and I agree that...I don't think sex would be on television in America as much as it is now, if it weren't for her which is not a good thing. I think she's only human and..sometimes doesn't explain or...express herself the best she could. Like with the Like a Prayer video. She wasn't making out with black Jesus. She was maken out with the black guy accused of the crime of murder. If you notice..the Black Jesus statue comes to life...and leaves. The dude she's maken out with has the same hair and clothes on as the guy accused of murder. The point of that video was that he was accused because he was black...and jungle fever is Oky dokey. Unfortunalty the director or herself didn't do such a great job in separating the too. Even now with the American Life video. Its a big O'Reilly Fox News story. What other women in the History of rock n roll has been on the news as a world event like Madonna? From the very begining with LIke a virgen, to Like a prayer, to the middle with The Blonde Ambition and Sex years, to her reincarnation as Etherial girl, til now with Bill Orielly's misinterpretation and partial assumption of the video for American life.
I'm a big fan of The O'Rielly Factor. Its very refreshing too know a serious - knows what thier talking about - news station actually researches and reports on fact as apose to opinion. Since when is MTV the scource for news? Dumbasses.

Anyway yeah...I'm writing this angry letter because this time and this time only O'Reilly didn't do his homework. He reported that Madonna is Anti Bush and just another celebrity that opposes.

He showed a clip of Madonnas American Life video. The part where she throws a gernade at a George Bush look alike and he uses to smoke. He goes off saying aren't we sick of these celebrities blaw blaw blaw....not even contacting or reading anything. If he had, he would have found out she has publicly spoken out in support of the troops and behind George Dubbya.j

She says the throwing of the gernade was symbolic of what happened at 911 and that it was thrown into George Bushes hands as an oppurtunity to take something like that and turn it into something useful...as he did.

BUT NOOOOOOOO...did he ask, did he take the time to find out? NO. It pisses me off. I guess nobodies perfect but....I'd expect more from O'Rielly than to be so presumptuous. Just lash out and say her careers over and interpret it for his viewers rather than let them interpret it for themselfs.

The lines in her song that go:

I'd like to express my extreme point of view,

    I'm not a Christian and i'm not a Jew

I'm just trying to live the American dream,

and I just found out that nothings is what it seems.

The song isn't even about what the video is about. The song is about her past and how she lived in a Drowned World of celebrity. As a material girl who eventually finds out that living the American Dream of fame and fortune won't make you happy. Its a reflection of her life and an informative letter to all who seek to be famous like its the cure for everything.

She says, "my extreme point of veiw, not a christian/jew.....which means She has an Extreme opinion on the subject but she's not a Christian or Jewish Extremist.

Followed by, "trying to live the american dream, just found out nothings like it seems.....means - in relation to the songs topic.....the american dream which is the life she has....its a dream, its was millions or...all people would like the have the shot at. Like the people thousands of hopefulls on American Idol - Star search etc...there all going after the images in the head. The dreams of money changes everything. Fame can make you happy.

SHE pulled it from being debuted - NOT VH1. She didn't want it to be misinterpreted as something its not, like IT HAS.

Rite away, O'Rielly hears Madonna, Celebrity, Granade, George Bush and comes up with his own idea. She's not just another celebri

  • about madonna, nobody says anything about her being the first to combine pop with hip hop as she did in 93 with the erotica album, Nobody says anything about how she's the first to combine Electronica with Country as she did with a few songs on the album Music. Nobody says anything about her combining Hip Hop with Electronica as she did with the American Life album and single. These are the first of its kind and IF SHE WERE A MAN you'd be calling her the 5th Beatle or Elvis Presleys incarnate.
