in a French Rockabilly group I met this artist who calls himself "Moz the Painter" and he has some - in my humble opinion - really cool popartish acryls on his website.

There will be exhibitions in Paris and NYC between April and June. Here is the website: http://www.moz.fr.st/

  • This story is a prime example of the shit that gets published on this site.

  • These paintings are hardly original. This is a blatant attempt at plagarising the works of Andy Warhol, who I must say was a far better artist than this fellow.

I hardly call painting Steve McQueen in the year 2003 as cutting edge. Maybe if he painted someone in the 'Pop Culture' of today, this would be a valid. However, he is out of touch true modern art. This is hardly the break through Cubism had on European painting. The display is more like a 16 years GCSE portfolio. Unimaginative, predictable and a waste of acrylic.

  • Wow, several very offensive comments here...
    No sex last night ?...

Seriously, how can one dare say that "plagiarising" the work of Andy Warhol is even possible ??? No offense, but saying that just means that you don't really get what Warhol is about.

I don't think this artist thinks he's as great as Warhol. So what? Saying his work is pure shit is totally unfair.

Apparently, his intention is not to "do pop art" as you "do art about contemporary idols". As I see it, what he's interested in is the fact that stars of the 60s could actually be called idols - as opposed to today's celebrities. And he tries to emphasize their larger-than-life dimension, which is made even greater by the passing of time.

And he didn't only do that: he also works on the bodies of manufactured sex and manufactured women, and tries to find their "pop beauty".

Seriously, this is a nice website, and there's no way you can be so offensive about it, accusing it of being focused on old icons, when this website is focused on morrissey...

  • I'm not sure if that's even a word but i'm not bothered. All these people who PAINT themselves (geddit??) as anonymous fighting with each other. Very amusing, almost conceptual!

Well I went to the site and I would say it was interesting but underwhelming. However its better than anything Warhol's painted since 1987.

Yes folks, I'm going to hell!
