So in case you've been living in a cave for the last twenty-four hours, the short film from Denmark "This Charming Man" won the Academy Award for best live action short film. It was very nice to see the director up on stage with his obvious admiration for Mozzer by way of his hairstyle.

  • It's great that the film got recognition, but was the "living in a cave" comment necessary? Is it wrong to shun the gaudiness and fraud that is the Oscars?

  • I believe they said they were from Denmark? I thought of Moz instantly when I heard the name, but are we sure it has something to do w/ Moz?

Maybe someone can shed some light here~ THANKS!

  • Is there anything this film has in common with the song except the title? I mean, why does this matter? I just checked on imdb.com and the film has nothing to do with the song concerning subject-matter etc. So I guess it's also relevant that Rebecca de Mornay won best villain at the 1992 MTV movie awards for a film called "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle". No, of course not. Slow news-day, I suppose...

  • Ths film is a tragedy. It centers on an egocentric singer who goes from instant fame to relative obscurity late in his career. He 'tries' to find a record contract for 6 years, but decides to tour ad nauseum until his fan base is reduced to a sole individual, named jules rillie. Hence the title, this charming man.

  • ...it's going to be playing for another week or so at the Two Boots Pioneer Theater in the East Village. If you go to the Time Out New York website and do an advance search under film, it will bring up the link to the theater's website.

  • I was watching the oscers last sunday whe the title of a film that was nominated was the same has the ever-so-famous smiths song, "this charming man." i thought to myself, what i coinsidence and when i saw that the film director shown a stricking resemblance to dear, old moz i thought maybe it was more than a coinsidence.

So then i knew i was probably gonna see something about this on morrissey-solo the next day. look at that, i was right.

i just wanted to comment about that.
