Saw the Chili Peppers in Manchester on Tuesday 11/3 and after name checking New Order and Joy Division saying that the Chilis wouldn't exist if it hadn't been for them, Flea then added "and don't forget the greatest band in the world, The Smiths". Not much audience reaction though most weren't born probably looking at all the kids there.

  • Praise from Flea and the chillies, Morrissey may as well kill himself now that his life is complete.

We don't do crack. We don't do that. Crack is whack. - Whitney Houston
  • In California during the mid-late 80s, I was in a punk band, and the only Smiths fan in our scene. It sure would have helped if Flea did this back then, but NOOOO...I guess he hadn't "discovered" them yet. Huh? The RHCP were one of the biggest bands of the 80s, SURELY if they were as cutting edge as everyone pedestaled them to be, he would have had SOME sort of Smiths awareness. It dosen't matter NOW, everyone has moved on. He's about 20 years too late. Cutting edge my ass. And what the hell happened to HIS band? They sure don't sound "Red Hot" to me anymore! They used to kill! Now they sound like some dead animal beckoning you to kick them off the road to keep from being pummelled by continuous oncoming traffic.

I've Got Thirteen Channels of Shit on the TV to Choose From
  • How embarrasing can you possibly be? I'm sick and f***ing tired of all the whiny complaining about other people's SMITHS/MOZ preferences. It isn't really the hottest news, if Flea repeatedly praises the lads, but so what? Have you so much energy left, to get yourself logged in and moan about nearly ANY other person liking MOZ? I suggest you to get a proper life instead or be sang to sleep! Also: Anybody visiting this site frequently knows, that Flea's just discovered THE SMITHS not that long ago anyway. When it comes to the RHCP, I admittedly don't even have one single piece of music of them at home, but respect them for what they are: A successful band, consisting of highly skilled and talented musicians, who are into what they do with integrity and playing music for music's sake. John Frusciante is one hell of an original guitarist, that really knows how to use his instrument in a way, that compliments a song, without those typical show-off gimmicks, which are used quite too often nowadays, as well as lots of players, who just hide behind volume, without knowing how to play a guitar properly at all, which in fact is a little Johnny Marr reference. As stated above: Still no RHCP fan, but please stop crying and shouting about nothing and nothing at all.

  • What Utter Nonsense (Score:2, Interesting)

I happen to not only like the Red Hot Chili Peppers but I also respect them. Have any of you noticed the state that “music” is in right now? It’s absolutely horrid. People stopped making music and singing out of love when television was invented. It became an industry, using TV as a worldwide surveyance of what people like and disklike for marketing purposes. Labels started to shell out money to pay people that fit certain descriptions, of what is supposed to be the mass population icon, to make music because those people would be able to lead an entire market of people and create a entire music genre, therefore making themselves and the record label they came from rich for years to come. Music stopped being made out of love...it all became money. The Peppers are one of the few bands that are actually in the game for the love of their music. They don’t create music for the people, the create it for themselves, therefore, they attract real fans, wholehearted fans. I think all of you should quit with the self righteous bullshit and realize that the Peppers are one of the REAL bands left. So what if Flea just discovered The Smiths! If you would have heard your first Smiths or Morrissey song yesterday, wouldn’t you feel the same way as Flea? All of you would! You’d feel exactly the same as you did 10 years ago or 20 years ago or one year ago when you first heard your first Smiths or Morrissey song.

I am constantly amazed by the amount of ignorance and closed mindedness displayed on Morrissey-Solo. For the record, yes, I said ignorant. People that make ridiculous comments without seeing the big picture are downright ignorant. We’re living in 2003 and our kids aren’t even going to be lucky enough to grow up listening to the Chili Peppers, they’re gonna get Christina Aguilera or Justin Timberlake. Lets be real folks, the Chili Peppers have worked hard and have forcefully earned their place in musical history, what have you done? Don’t disrespect real music. Sure you may not like the Peppers style, but so what, that’s beside the point. Don’t disrespect them as a band. Their music is still being made straight from the heart, therefore making it REAL music. Yes, they get paid...but they’re getting paid due to the fact that they’ve worked so hard. None of you can say that the Peppers have had it easy. They had to fight and struggle! They were constantly told they weren’t good enough, that they weren’t what the world wanted to see, they weren’t icons. What have any of the so called bands nowadays done for credibility? Nothing! On the contrary, they have everything, including fame, handed to them because they’re fabricated. They’re doing their jobs and performing their obligations under contract. All the barriers have been broken by bands like the Beatles, the Smiths, Depeche Mode, the Peppers, Nirvana, etc. There will never be another Morrissey or another Red Hot Chili Peppers, all we have to look forward to is the next Justin Timberlake or The Donnas. Its so sad that most of you can’t see this. However, if you feel where I’m coming from, don’t just sit there, say something!

  • I can really see how the Smiths influenced the Red Hot Chili Peppers-

songs about being strung-out on heroin-

    songs about bathroom stall abortions-

    tuneless, lisping melodies-

    socks on the genitals-

sexually pummeling audience members during shows-

OBVIOUSLY the charm and wit of Morrissey has rubbed off on them, right?
I cannot stand the Chili Peppers.
That zephyr song and scar tissue are painfully tortuous to listen to.

Sorry, guys- I am not impressed.

  • Flea is right on one thing: The Smiths is the best band in world. What else he's right on, I really don't know. If he's such a big Smiths fan, then I don't understand why RHCP sounds like they are inspired more by Bon Jovi than by The Smiths. I mean, look a RHCP's lyrics: "Road trippin’ with my two favorite allies/Fully loaded we got snacks and supplies"... snacks and supplies?! Jeez! I can't see why its important to let the listeners know that 'we got snacks and supplies' unless, of course, the only purpose is to make the lines rhyme....
