The singers voice needs some work, but if they were doing another style of music, i'm sure he'd sound fine. Were just used to hearing Morrisseys unmatched vocals so yeah, were a little biased.

Its not bad though, SO shut up you bitches!

If I can’t have the real thing, a cover band will do - I will always be for getting totally trashed in a crowd of rowdy Moz fans enjoying the songs that saved our lives. People, it’s about the music and having the time of your life!

Oooh, if you want utter crap, you should hear my ex-boyfriend’s band “The (Not So) Handsome Devils” Their renditions are horridly offensive!

If you guys are reading this, sorry, but I had to. Practice makes perfect, so keep practicing!

  • I'd just like to add my tuppence worth and voice a note of encouragement for these brave lads. I've just spent a happy hour listening to the songs on their website, and they're quite good. The vocalist seems a little restrained, perhaps he is not overly confident, but he needs a bit more of the old Wildean flamboyancy to carry him through. Confidence can cover a multitude of sins. The guitarist is brave to attempt Johnny Marr's supurb guitar lines, but remember that even Johnny made the odd fluff when playing live. These recordings have a fairly live-in-studio feel to them and would undoubtedly benefit from the care and consideration afforded by a professional studio environment.

So keep it up lads, you carry the flame and I'll carry the torch...

It that was produced in a proper studio it would sound the world better. The bassline is brilliantly done, and remember the axe weilder is trying to copy johnny marr, one of the greatest guitarists of his generation.

But be careful, if you don't follow the rules of conduct that govern the behavior of a Morrissey/Smiths fan, you will be nailed to the cross!

Just to remind you, the rules are:

      - you have to agree that Mike Joyce should be tortured to death.

      - you should absolutely adore all songs Morrissey wrote, even Satan Rejected My Soul.

      - You're supposed to act like a vile, old queen in your posts and call it "witty reparte".

      - You should slaughter any cover band, unless ofcourse old Mozzer shows up at one of their gigs.

  • ...but personally, if I would cover Smiths tunes, I would add my own touch to them -- you know, let my personality be expressed through them. I know that I could never sound like Morrissey, since I'm a girl and all (my sister can sing exactly like him in jest, but that's another story). The fact is that I wouldn't want to make myself sound like Morrissey. I would most likely perform the songs how I interpretted them. Anywho, I give this band a C+. They aren't that bad, but they aren't that great either. (I liked their rendition of "London" a little; it was heavy.) Overall, fellows, try to just be yourselves and perform the songs while incorporating your own flavor into them. In my humble opinion, the best covers I've ever heard sound almost nothing like the original -- in other words, it doesn't sound like a rip-off. (Has anyone ever heard Johnny Cash's covers of Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails? Remarkable!!) I wish you all the best of luck, and hey, at least you're covering a band worth covering! ;)

Ok, some people might not like the band, fair enough, anyone's entitled to their opinions, but lord, there's ways and ways of putting it!
The Other Smiths have just started and it sounds like an excellent starting point! And -above all- they seem passionate about it, which is the main thing.

Honestly, they might not be a bad band, but just dont target The Smiths for covering, it cant and shouldnt ever be done...most covers suck (with a few exceptions)

I am Australian and can sing more like Morrissey then that dude, he seems to have trouble finishing off his words..
    For example
From 'There is a light that never goes out'
the line "Driving in your car"
turns to "Driving in your ca.."
