Boz writes:

We would like to make it very clear to everyone that Morrissey HAS NOT signed a deal with Sanctuary Records.

We are very mystified by reports in the News Of The World, Uncut etc, which confirm that Morrissey has signed.

For the record, Morrissey only met Sanctuary twice - and that was a year ago. They made a financial offer which just wasn't enough to keep things afloat - and was certainly not even remotely in the region of 5 million pounds.

Morrissey was not approached by any other label in 2002, and has received no offers since the end of the tour. And, as of my conversation with Morrissey 30 minutes ago, things remain this way.

We'd like to thank everyone who came to see us on the tour - it was the best tour of our lives. We had hoped to begin on the East coast by February, but, it just isn't coming together. We have been offered some UK festivals for the summer which we'd like to do.

So, please, ignore all the Sanctuary rumours. When a deal is signed ........ we'll let you know... but only if ..... you're really interested.

  • This is desperate, desperate news...but thanks Boz, at least we know where we stand. I hope Les Inrocks and all the other lazy music rags take note of this statement.

Sanctuary Records involvement in perpetuating these rumours should be condemned.

Last year's 'release' posted on Amazon with catalogue album was bad enough. What possible motivation then would they have in giving this information to Les Inrocks at a trade show????

I really hope we hear more of Morrissey's new music soon - I'd say go into the studio and do another Janice Long session...but that would sort of defeat the object of trying to get an album out...

We all know that Morrissey can get a record deal, we also know that labels as big as EMI will never sign him. He made a big mistake leaving them for RCA, I'm pretty sure his last two albums would have sold much better on EMI even though they weren't quite as good.
Oh well, it's got to the point where there's more chance of a Smiths reunion than a new Moz album and that is certainly not a good indication.

  • I can't believe that Boz wrote the above statement.

First of all there are no spelling errors. The sentences are complete sentences. The meaning of his mail is clear AND wrote more than 4 sentences.

Have you ever seen an e-mail from Boz? Not to harp on his writing skills or anything, but all the mail I've seen from him is littered with sentence fragments and mispellings -- and if somehow, amazingly if you got the gist of his e-mail you're lucky.

The statement supposed written by "Boz" is concise and thought out well. How the hell did he manage that? Also, how did he manage to write all that WITH NO ERRORS in under 30 minutes -- assuming tht it is true that he spoke with Morrissey 30 mintues ago.

Perhaps Boz has a secretary. Or maybe the update is false. You make the call!

  • A few years ago, the remaining Sex Pistols reformed for the Filthy Lucre tour. When asked if the band still hated each other, Johnny Rotten replied "Yes, with a vengeance, but we share a common cause, and it's your money."

Since Marr's Healers project apparently blows, Morrissey hasn't had a label in 5 years, and Joyce and Rourke have nothing going on....it's only a matter of time until they reunite for the common cause of our money. Yeah!

  • When I first read about the signing rumour I was a little surprised. What record company would pay Morrissey 5 million pounds for a deal? So, I wasn't surprised to hear about this denial from Boz. All of this is just the same old, same old. Rumour, denial, and nothing for the fans. Morrissey should realize that he is more like Elvis (in his 40's, albeit) than he already believes: fat, old, balding, and dated. You don't sell any respectable amount of records and your songs have lost their charm. Get a new band, a new sound, and go on a diet. Your pontifications on Craig Kilborn a few months back failed to inspire me and you came off like a tired old fag. Indeed, you summed up what is your career now in the most succinct way 16 years ago "Reissue, Repackage..."

It's only a matter of time before it happens and it will be a disaster. I'm talking about the reformation of The Smiths. Moz can't even get a deal nowadays because the record companies are not interested in his new material and the fact is that The Smiths back catalogue still outsells anything that either Moz or Marr have done since. People have said this will not happen, ever, but I can't think of a single band that hasn't resisted the temptation of that last chance ego trip reunion. I'm talking huge massive bands here some of which split up in far worse circumstances, The Eagles, The Who, Led Zep, The Pistols, The Clash were due to reform later this year and even The Beatles couldn't resist it.
The legacy of The Smiths will be ruined forever if they do it, but somehow it seems inevitable because no other band regardless of how much hate there was or how big the band were have been cool enough not to do it. being cool doesn't matter when you're that age.
I don't want to see my favourite band ever running around as four breathless, fat men. My God, it was bad enough seeing that most of the male audience looked like this on the recent tour!
Moz and Marr: DON'T DO IT. Stay true to your ethics and be different, please, please, please.

As much as I plead, I would personally put money on this happening in the next 5 years, seriously.
