According to (UK) Channel 4 Teletext's mostly rubbish "Planet Sound", Johnny Marr wants to work with Morrissey again. Here is a full transcript of the story, although the source for their story was the Daily Mirror.

OLD AGE, HERE WE COME!

Johnny Marr has said he'd like to work with Morrissey again - but ruled out a reunion of The Smiths.

  - "Morrissey is an interesting guy and I have a lot of respect for him." Marr told the Daily Mirror. "It may be interesting to do some weird orchestral thing as mature 45 year olds, but we won't be going back to the gladioli.

  - Marr's new band The Healers release new single "Bangin' On" on Monday."

  • yeah,i saw this.its just another small comment thats got blown out of proportion again though isn't it really?how many times have there been this sort of thing reported?!its only cos every interview morrissey and marr do,there's the inevitable question regarding each other and working together.they're always extremely tongue in cheek aswell and everyone gets carried away.we all know though that, unfortunately, its never gonna happen,no matter how much everyone wants it to.

    I scare dead people.
  • I can't see that happening. It annoys me when people ask Morrissey about Smiths reunions or if he and Johnny will work together again. They made the most beautiful music known to mankind, but people need to pay more attention to the musicians Morrissey is working with now and stop living in the past.

Marr did make a similar comment in an article in a New York paper. It's nice to think of, but I don't think that it will happen. If it does, I don't think that it could ever be the same as it was.

These are the hard truths that we must deal with.......

  • I had thed extrene pleasure to interview JM, and he said most definitely, that he is NOT interested in working with Moz again.

They're not in contact anymore, and Johnny is absolutely not interested in speaking to Moz - there is nothing to talk abaout except gigs from 1985, he said...

    What he said was sad...

  • The way I look at it is this: If Sex Pistols, Bauhaus, The Eagles, Tears for Fears and The Clash (didn't happen ONLY due to Joe Strummer dying) can get back together, then it's very possible for The Smiths to do the same if given the right opportunity. It would be a shame if Johnny Marr closed the door permanently to a possible reunion, especially given the genious chemistry their band had together and the legacy they created.

It's nice that Johnny Marr has his side projects and band, BUT if Johnny and Moz really want to attain all that they want to in life and career, a re-formation of The Smiths as well as the continuance of their respective solo careers would be the smartest thing to do, not only financially but creatively as well.

Also, to make matters even better, Moz would not only get alot more record label attention once news of a Smiths reunion hit the street, but many of the labels would not only offer fantastic deals but Moz could also orchestrate his deal to where whatever label he signs The Smiths to would also have to sign his solo releases as well.

Now, that would be the genious thing for 45 year olds to do.

  • pipe down you fool. Some of Moz's solo stuff is far superior to some of the Smiths stuff. Admittedly on the whole, Smiths are better but to say he sucks on his own is utter rubbish.
