Eric Olsson writes:

Just saw in the latest issue of Uncut (The Clash on the cover) that a new Morrissey album is due out early 2003 on Sanctuary. Well, that's it, pretty short and a little vague but nevertheless the Sanctuary-rumour refuses to die.

RaisedToWait writes:

Reading this months copy of Uncut magazine (Clash cover), found the following tucked away on page 12 under the Music News & Rumour heading...

"Morrissey has a new LP, his first since 1997's disappointing Maladjusted, due in the early months of 2003 on Sanctuary."

Anyone heard tell of this?

Sandwich also mentions:

This month's Uncut gives a good (albeit small) review of Simon Goddard's new Smiths book, giving it 4 out of 5.

  • ... in the same issue there's another Morrissey mention in the obituary for director Karel Reisz, about the Spring Heeled Jim Lambeth Boys connection (not actually so surprising since it's written by Simon Goddard).

Great Clash article but I can't believe they let it go to press without putting in SOME mention of the fact that Strummer passed away? Otherwise a great tribute.

It's all a matter of opinion...
  • ..you get the pessimistic comments, but look at what has happened in the past year. Personally, I have seen Morrissey twice, which I never thought would happen. Why would he bother touring if he has no plans to release an album?

I believe we will see a new Morrissey album this year, and hopefully another tour.

  • Has anybody else noticed how it's basically the same rumour going through all the magazines?

If you were a record label about to release the first album that Morrissey has made in almost 6 years, would you keep quiet about it? I don't think so.

Until Morrissey or, even better, Sanctuary or another label we should just assume that these are simply one and the same rumour, making the rounds again and again.

  • Someone mentioned Karel Reisz. His fantastic 'Saturday Night, Sunday Morning' will be on British television this Sunday (BBC 2, around midnight). Dont miss it! It won't be on for another 10 years or so...

  • i dont get why he doesnt get a record deal. he cannot ask for many money because like 6 years without a record deal not making money from haveing one, im sure he wouldnt ask for that much.
Since this rumour keeps going on i guess maybe they are trying to negociate with him.
    well i hope so..

  • I suggested a while ago that Morrissey had been signed last year around the time of the Albert Hall dates. It won't be announced until early 2003 and when record sales are usually low the new record will reach a high place in the chart. I reckon the new album will be out in February!

  • I am not sure about these rumours people are making good points about them being just rumours or true! But one thing I know for sure is that I really enjoyed listening to Maladjusted and love everything that Morrissey has done!
I saw him on the recent tour and I am hoping against hope that the rumours are true!

  • "Irish Blood,English Heart" by Morrissey is out now but you can't buy it in the shops, oh no!!....to get hold of a copy you have to fly to Outer Mongolia. Upon arrival you'll see a small blind man selling second hand books by the toilets, say to him...."crazy fool.....i aint goin on no plane", he will than hand you a map to find the cave where copies of the exclusive new Moz album can be found. Beware though as the journey into the harsh terrain of Mongolia is littered with all kinds of evil trying there best to prevent you ever finding the new opus. Keep an eye out for NME agents who try their best to be-friend you then lead you in to dangerous parts, they will also try to convince you that you should be listening to Coldplay....then finally Elton John, resist at all costs. Also keep an eye out the local wild dogs who all have the head of Robert Smith.....they will hunt you down and give you a bite of venom which has no known cure. As you approach the golden caves of Moz you'll be hunted by the zombie Craig David lookalikes who guard the "woods of no taste" which you have to pass through to reach the fruits of your quest. If they catch you they'll take you back to there garage where you'll be subjected to loud playbacks of Daniel Beddingfields new album....a fate worse than death!
So there.....you know now...good luck! and may the force of good taste guide you through on your dangerous journey! The fruits of which are worth beholding......you also get a free poster with a limited # of the albums! Good luck.......

    regards Kes! xx

  • Cast your minds back 12 months... the closest any of us got to news was spotting him in a supermarket. Then we got the USA tour dates, and with them came the new songs... then the Albert Hall shows, and then the tour.

If I had posted that last year no-one would have believed it. But here we are, 5 whole shiny brand new songs to play with on bootlegs... The wait is nearly over my friends.
