Stuart Goodwin writes:

Joan Sims, famous for her roles in the Carry On movies and renowned in Morrissey-land as the star of the "Ouija Board, Ouija Board" promo, has died aged 71.

The star, who was in more than 20 Carry On films, died after a lengthy illness.

"She had been ill for some months," said a spokeswoman for her agent.

Her most recent movie was the BBC TV film Last Of The Blonde Bombshells in which she starred with Dame Judi Dench.

  • It is very sad to hear about the death of one of Britains greatest comedy actors. Still, she made my childhood more bearable as I grew up watching all those classic films. She was also pretty good in the Ouija Board video alongside the wonderous Kathy Burke and the quiffed one himself.

Hope to vada you all sometime

  • This is sad. She was a great comic actress, and if any of you American Morrissey fans haven't seen a "Carry On" film then you should check 'em out.Every single person in the UK watched all of them when they were kids. And in a small but fundamental way they helped make us what we are.

  • A few words in print just cannot describe the joy
and pleasure Joan Simms brought to the viewers
of our television screens in the UK. An amazing actress, with a rather joyful presence and attractive appearance, Joan entaintained millions of UK fans through work in a variety of TV projects.

  • So Farewell Then,

    Joan Sims.

Star of ‘Ouija Board’, and more…

Depart Old England and her sins,

To queenly rest, and rest assured,

On ‘The Other Side’- they do serve Pimms,

(Of which you were partic'ly fond.)

And here, Sunday Afternoons, late in spring,

    Your spirit will Carry On.

A statement so deep it would take a lifetime to fully comprehend every nuance of its meaning. Either that or it’s Crap.
  • Growing up in the 80's (born 1979) only one day was deemed important to me - Saturdays. Myself, my sisters and my cousins all sat huddled around the TV at my grandparents house waiting for that afternoon's Carry On film followed by a bout of English pro wrestling. Ah those the days...
