Opening comment - "You're The One For Me, Philly".

Band was introduced as Kilt Uncle as they were all decked out in kilts.

No HSIN opener tonight, and that's a pity. Was an intense opener - FOTGTD pales in comparison. But I can understand. At least it wasn't dropped, as was Rubber Ring.

Lots of talking to Julia tonight, and Moz held what seemed like a five minute conversation with someone near the front about their favorite movie.

Not as many stage invasions tonight, but still a few.

The band was invited on the "Ellen Degenerate" show, to which someone behind me shouted "lazy dyke" - Moz kind of lost his train of thought at that point and I dunno that he ever really finished.

He said something to the effect of "thank God the Lollapalooza thing fell through" to which the crowd cheered. He then responded "bigmouth strikes again".

He referred to YATQ repeatedly as something like "What I Threw Up For Dinner".

"You Know I Couldn't Last" seemed to go over VERY well from my vantage point. The verses ARE taxing though - and I may be alone but I think it's one of the best choruses in a Moz song. He nails it and the emotion showed.

The intro tape is WAY long.

At the end, on a serious note, he thanked us for twenty years of support in case they "never pass this way again". The first time I ever saw Moz get that sentimental to an audience. It truly sounded like a goodbye. He then seemed at a loss for words and just said "God bless you" and went into the last song.

  • I wanted to add a descriptive bit for those who didn't get to see Moz this time around. While the set and lighting was far more elaborate and colorful than days past, there we a few moments that were hazy, smokey, and surreal, reminding me of the Vauxhaull and I tour days. It was an incredible sight.

Also, there was tons of shirt ripping. When's the last time you caught Moz throwing shirts into the crowd?!

Moz opener... "Thank you, and welcome to the second night of the Barmitzva"

A more sentimental night than yesterday. Though, it was not as energetic (like the previous post says, How Soon Is Now was not the opener and I think this is the reason why). More people in attendance tonight.

Moz had a lot to say in the beginning. Talked about Michael Moore and how we could tell he wasn't a vegetarian. =)

Not as many stage-goers tonight, but security actually helped those who tried towards the end.

Moz's farewell was beautiful and I'm glad I made it to both shows. Some pictures will be up soon.

  • Morrissey was in such good spirits tonight, it seemed like he built off the last night's energy. I had a great time - didn't think I would go after last night's perfection (got onstage and held his hand!) but he seemed so happy tonight and I got another wonderful handshake! Great to be in a space (on the left, almost inside the barricade) where I could dance around and still see him so closely. Real emotion before "There Was A Light," it was quite affecting. His chatting tonight was hilarious - made a lot of "bad jokes" and thanked us for laughing at them. I never expected him to pick up the tambourine either, but he did for at least two songs. Security definitely beefed up for tonight, but they were still quite kind and permissive. All in all, god bless his soul - and hopefully his parting words to Philadelphia do not come true!

Nonetheless, it was a fabulous show and I hope it's not the last time Morrissey graces a Philly stage as he intimated. I laughed, I cried- it was a great show. I look forward to shows where "Alain-side" has Alain again- he was missed this weekend.

  • Did anyone catch the name of the movie that someone told Morrissey was their favorite? Morrissey got the funniest look on his face like he was so charmed by this response. I heard the name but I hadn't heard of it, and promptly forgot it, and now it's driving me crazy. Something and Something? Had a military flavor?

"You may have noticed that the tickets are a bit more expensive then the last time we were here. As you know, the price of NyQuil has gone up."

Does Morrissey really think that Michael Moore is the "hippest guy in America"? I know he has low respect for our countrymen, but come on. I've never heard him say hip- before either:)

It was funny to hear him gauge the audience's opinion on "Ellen Degenerate." He said the they had been extended an invitation, and was wondering if it was a good idea to accept or not. Reaction was divided, and when he asked, "Do you watch that show?" EVERYONE screamed NOOOOOOOOOO. I wonder if this will have an effect on his decision. I would love to see him anywhere on TV. When he started talking about her I thought it was going to be another "Arrested Development" puzzler.

  • Aged to Perfection. (Score:2, Informative)

Tonight was magnificent, even better that the previous show. The crowd was more energized, Morrissey seemed to be over his cold, and of course the setlist was enormously pleasing.

"You're the one for me, Philly!"

-The First Of The Gang To Die
"Welcome to the second night of my Bar Mitzah!"

    -Bigmouth Strikes Again
No one could resist this one. It was nice and speedy and had everyone dancing. I could feel the floor bouncing a bit. Truly the most welcome of the new songs added.

    -November Spawned A Monster
Played like usual, a bit down-tempo but lovely nonetheless. Mikey played bongos and provided some lush backdrops for the song. Morrissey, as usual, plays dead during the little instrumental break and then miraculously comes back to life for the finale. Wonderful.

    -I Like You
Nothing much to say about this one. Played the usual way, sounded good. On a personal note, the man came over and shook my hand while singing "I like you, I like you, I like you". I thought that was quite appropriate and really made my night.

-The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores
Several people were screaming and shouting the whole night (as they should be), but Morrissey put on his snob cap and pretended to snore while they shouted out their praise for him. Then the band launched into this song with excellent timing.

-Don't Make Fun Of Daddy's Voice
Sounded fantastic. I was really glad that he played this, as its absence was quite noticable on the first night, at least for me.

-Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me
Though I was fond of the somewhat lame intro of this song's previous incarnation, Mikey comes through with his piano-playing, almost identical to "Strangeways", only a bit shorter. Though I could've gone for "Rubber Ring", "Shakespeare's Sister", or "Hand in Glove" (which seems to appear and disappear randomly)...this was still a good choice for his Smiths selection.

    -Now My Heart Is Full
Morrissey's voice sounded wonderful and tonight's performance was flawless, unlike last night where the sound went out during the end. He missed some of the words in the beginning because he was making faces at one of his follower-friends in the crowd.

    -Let Me Kiss You
Usual performance, Mikey on horn-duty. Shameless chest exposure and self-groping. Wonderful.

-Such A Little Thing Makes Such A Big Difference
Don't understand why there are so many critics of this song. I think it's one of his best and truly a blast from the past. Nothing else from "Bona Drag" is really being played and this is a great pick. If you dislike it, it shouldn't even be a big deal...the song is one of his shortest. No need to drop this one, it's perfect!

-How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel
Again, typical performance of this song. Nothing special, but not bad by any means.

    -The Never-Played Symphonies
The biggest shock of the night. I thought this would be for the hardcore-fans only, but from where I was standing (right side, against the rail), everyone seemed to be stunned. Sounded better than on record, way more emotional. Glad to see "Munich Air Disaster" dropped for this one, clearly the superior "IBEH" b-side. Was very glad to be there for the first performance ever of this song.

-The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get
...and just when I thought the surprises were over. Mikey played acoustic guitar for this one. Great performance, sounded just like the 1995 days. When's the last time Morrissey played this one? A couple times in 2000?

    -Irish Blood, English Heart
A little down-tempo, it seems like Boz isn't playing the intro as well as he used to. Could've just been my ears, though. Sounded great. I seem to forget about this song since its release seems so long ago and I've been listening to it for years, but it truly is one of the best on the new record.

    -You Know I Couldn't Last
I do like this song, but I really feel like it should be a verse or two shorter.

I made nice and told them how much I liked them, how much I wanted tickets to see them that night (they were playing at 11 pm at the Theater of the Living Arts). The drummer asked what my name was, made a phone call, and got me on the guest list for a sold-out show. It was awesome. So I got to see Moz and the Killers on the same night. Haven't done that since the Moz House of Blues show in Chicago, and I probably never will get to again. Great night all around.

  • Don't pay over face value for pit seats. They don't mean a thing. Luckily, I got mine through the pre-sale at face value. Otherwise, I'd be a bit upset. People storm from the back anyway, it hardly matters once the show starts. I don't see why they bothered checking tickets at the start anyway.

To the girl in front of me who got on stage during the encore, you looked so bored all night. You barely moved through the whole show as you wasted your front position that you stole from running in front of us. Why did you even care to get on stage? To the strong man who lifted her up and then wouldn't let me get up front, I hope you feel good about pushing a tiny girl back while you stood broadly to take up two spots.

To all the people on the right side front row, we were a bit ignored by the man last night. Just once did he come by and say hello. I think he sensed the rudeness among a few of you and stayed away. Too bad for the rest of us.

Great show, sounded beautiful and his goodbye sounded very true & real.

  • Dan Gross | Morrissey in crash here

"SAD-SACK SONGMAN Morrissey was involved in a Saturday afternoon car accident in Center City.

It wasn't a double-decker bus that crashed into his car, as the former Smithsfrontman once sang about, but a Ford Mustang.

The singer, who played two shows at the Tower Theater over the weekend, was seated in the back of a black Mercedes whose bumper was torn off after being struck by the Ford around 23rd & Chestnut streets.

When the mopemeister from Manchester got out of the car to hop into a taxi, an excited onlooker yelled, "You're Morrissey," and dropped her bags of groceries.

Moz hightailed it out of there while the driver and another man stayed to deal with the accident."
