Just some extracts from a bootleg I have of The Smiths playing this Liverpool venue early 1986 after they finished their set and were replaced by The Lloyd Connection I think their name was. The crowd was not pleased. Anyone at this gig?

  • Moz was on top form, said we were chanting Noris Green and not Morrissey. Jessie Tobias is spot on and Moz found a real gem there, thanks to Mikey.

Ignore what is said about the band being off key and moz not seeming interested in response to the first post, moz was great, the boys were solid and the gig was ..... well My heart is most certainly full, enough said.

  • I just want to say how much better the atmosphere was tonight compared with MEN gig in May, the smaller venue helps build the atmosphere, and I have singing the songs all the way back to Anglesey.
Opening with How Soon Is Now was awesome.
    Thanks Moz

  • Only seen three shows on this tour but tonight was the best. It was stupidly briilliant.

    How good was he?

Well, I bought a friend of mine a ticket - a girl who's got a fleeting grasp of The Smiths, and a general respect for Morrissey's later work. About half way through the gig I looked at her and saw she was crying.

    HIGHLIGHTS;

    1. Morrissey getting the crowd to chant 'Norris Green, Norris Green, Norris Green....'.

    2. Five shirts.

    3. Best set list. Putting Paddy Blood at the beginning and First Of The Gang at the end seemed to work better. PS, the band sound-checked Certain People I Know.

    4. Audience. Scousers are top.

    5. The City. Blue sky - late summer joy in a brilliant place - Liverpool's won the Capital Of Culture 2008 for a reason.

    6. Moz had his Mum and Dad in one of the boxes. I watched them a bit and they liked Now My Heart Is Full enourmously but really rocked out to FOTGTD. Go Mr and Mrs Moz.

Thought Blackpool was the ultimate but this was truly special.

  • In a night that I have to say I thought was absolutely wonderful I had one disappointment, no Jack the ripper! When he sang it in blackpool his voice was stunning, taking notes up where they used to go down and really crooning the chorus. You dont agree? But you dont refuse me? Shame, but what a night eh! Saw him outside afterwards in a flat cap!

    It's just kneejerk euphoria.

  • bloody exellent night, really fantastic - he sand like a bird and was totally charming - the best crowd by far from any gig of the tour so far, I really wish I hadn't decided to give Preston a miss now !

I really loved the way he sped out of the back in a black limo to the applause of fans - we loved it - trully great gig.

The aftershow party at the Heaven and Hell was rubbish - and so was the Mani disco - the only let down of the night!

    - oh , and I saw the caterers getting sorted - The Royal Court has notoriously bad Green room arrangements - I can confirm that they were using a lot of potted plants!

and before I forget - 'Daddy's Voice" sounds better and gets a warmer reception every time I hear it, you can tell he loves it himself the way he camps up the pantomime aspect - and the lyrics are a scream - its a bit like footstompers like 'What She Said' or 'Shakespeare's Sister' -short, sharp and shocking - in a good way.

I really hope this ends up being a single - in fact, you can just imagine this one on the xmas Top Of The Pops - with all the teeny boy-bands and tarty girl groups - that would be fantastic.

  • I just thought last night's was awesome! Always a good show in Liverpool. We thought it was Deano's parents in the box. I got to the front, in the centre and it was amazing! Highlights - Shakespeare's Sister, Knew I couldn't last, Let me kiss you and Now my Heart is Full (even though a line or two were fluffed!!!). Morrissey seems a different man. 8th gig I've been to since 91 and probably the best one (Chester in 97 was also amazing). Saw him at MEN and MOVE but this was special! Spare a thought for my mate PAul, only his 2nd Moz gig, he got the brown shirt (the one Moz wiped all over) but then was set upon by a mob - he still got a good chunk of it! Smells bloody good too! Thanks Morrissey - one of the best night ever!

  • I thought the gig was good but not as good as when I saw him at Leeds or Bham (actually the only other times I have ever seen him). Mainly I thought that this was due to the fact that around the area in which I was standing people knew very few of the songs (even beginning to applaud in the bits when it sounds like its finished in songs like November spawned, etc) and also I personally thought that Moz played to many songs off YATQ, which I find to be not so good. Also Moz looked a tad silly, but it was funny how he kept referring to his new album as 'Morrissey you fool you are the quarry'.

PS. ANYONE GO TO THE MANI DJ SET AFTERWARDS? WAS IT GOOD? I HAD TO DRIVE BACK TO WOLVERHAMPTON AND SO COULDNT GO!

  • They were the immortal words spoken TO ME by HIMSELF and I still cant believe it!

What a night, better that Manchester and Blackpool because this time I got to hold his hand FOUR TIMES!!! A moment I will live off forever and all the more incredible for being in my hometown.

I want to thank my two mates (Brenty & Cain) for guarding my spot at the front and witnessing him speak to me, ohterwise I may still think I imagined it!

Also a big thank you to the Scottish bloke at the front next to me, I'm sorry I dont know your name but you saved me from the crush several times and passed me some of your water. Cheers, I only hope I didn't ruin your night by screaming so much!

Five nights on and I'm still floating on air, I waited 18 years for that and it was worth every bruise to feel fourteen again! Thank you Morrissey and I'm sorry if I embarrassed you by bursting into tears but you really do mean that much to me.
